Job summary

Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC seeks a Pharmacist IV Room Coordinator to oversee the sterile compounding program and the IV cleanroom operations. You will ensure compliance with USP standards and work with pharmacy leadership, technicians, and nursing staff to maintain safe, accurate CSP preparation.

The role requires hospital pharmacy experience, an active pharmacist license, and at least 1 year of hospital practice; residency is preferred.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy required.
  • Hospital experience is required.
  • Active pharmacist license in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • 1 year of hospital experience required. Residency experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the sterile compounding suite and IV room.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring, certification reports, cleaning documentation, and competency assessments.
  • Support regulatory surveys, accreditation inspections, and internal audits.
  • Maintain sterile compounding quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Oversee preparation and dispensing of CSPs, including hazardous and non-hazardous medications.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and inventory to maintain stock levels of IV meds and materials.
  • Monitor productivity, turnaround times, and operational metrics to improve efficiency.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Pharmacist IV Room Coordinator is responsible for the operational oversight, clinical support, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance activities of the sterile compounding program. This position coordinates the daily workflow of the IV cleanroom and sterile compounding areas to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient preparation of compounded sterile products (CSPs). The coordinator works collaboratively with pharmacy leadership, pharmacists, technicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to maintain compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

Oversight of all daily operations within the sterile compounding suite

  • Oversee the preparation and dispensing of compounded sterile products, including hazardous and non-hazardous medications.
  • Ensure compliance with USP , USP , state board of pharmacy regulations, Joint Commission standards, and organizational policies.
  • Assist with development, implementation, and updating of sterile compounding policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Assist with investigation of compounding errors, variances, and quality events and with corrective action planning.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy purchasing and inventory personnel to maintain adequate stock levels of IV medications, supplies, and compounding materials.
  • Monitor productivity, turnaround times, and operational metrics to improve efficiency and patient care.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing and medical staff regarding IV medication preparation, compatibility, stability, storage, and administration.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees and performance improvement initiatives regarding sterile compounding.
  • Maintain compliance with all hospital, departmental, and pharmacy safety requirements.
  • May provide functional oversight and coordination of pharmacy technicians, IV technicians, pharmacy interns, and staff pharmacists involved in sterile compounding operations.
Record Keeping/Audit Readiness
  • Review/conduct environmental monitoring, certification reports, cleaning documentation, and competency assessments.
  • Support preparation for regulatory surveys, accreditation inspections, and internal audit.
  • Facility Audits - Assist with audits by HCA entities or outside entities (Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy, DEA, etc.)
  • Monitor and maintain sterile compounding quality assurance and quality control programs.
Training
  • Participate in new employee orientation and ongoing staff education related to sterile compounding.
  • Assist with implementation and optimization of pharmacy technology related to sterile compounding and workflow management.
  • Perform pharmacist staffing duties as needed, including order verification, medication checking, and clinical support.
What qualifications you will need:
  • B.S. or PharmD from and ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy required
  • Hospital experience is required
  • Active pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy
  • 1 year of Hospital experience required. Residency experience preferred.
