Job description

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of IS-related experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) such as Epic, Pearl, McKesson, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, Allscripts, GE Healthcare, or pharmacy informatics residency or fellowship training.
  • Educational background and/or experience sufficient to conduct clinical application analysis and/or programming of intermediate to complex systems, analyze clinical workflows, and develop system adoption strategies.
  • Experience building and implementing EMR protocols in a multi‑facility hospital and clinic environment.
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in Texas, or eligible; licensure must be obtained within 90 days of the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy
  • Two years of 340B split billing software experience
  • Two years of 340B experience
  • Epic Willow, Beacon, and/or Clarity Certification
  • Completion of Apexus 340B University or OnDemand University
  • Completion of Apexus Advanced 340B Certificate Program
  • Demonstrates a high level of productivity and dependability
Travel

Job Description

This position is responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, optimization, maintenance, and support of intermediate to highly complex clinical systems related to pharmacy in compliance with all applicable regulations and organizational policies. In collaboration with Pharmacy Services and Information Services, the Pharmacist Informatics Specialist participates in the analysis, design, implementation, education, and support of computer application systems (e.g., Epic, PACMed, Carousels, Robot, Pyxis, etc.) and determines business requirements and user needs to develop solutions.

About this Position

In collaboration with Pharmacy Services and Information Services, the Pharmacist Informatics Specialist participates in the analysis, design, implementation, education, and support of computer application systems (e.g., Epic, automated dispensing cabinets, split bill software, and 340B program administrator software) with a special focus on systems that support the University’s 340B Program.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develop and maintain a system for gathering, reviewing, and uploading data to the 340B ESP platform.
  • Create a plan to report revenues recovered from sharing data through the 340B ESP platform and maintain a monitoring process for pricing at each contract pharmacy location.
  • Maintain 340B technology systems, including coordination of build & configuration to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Ensure network files are received for split bill & third‑party administrator systems and resolve any exceptions.
  • Update EPIC ERX records to apply 340B modifiers to claims appropriately.
  • Review accruals of split bill software to identify variances, investigate discrepancies, and verify accurate accruals.
  • Verify Texas Medicaid NDC to HCPCS crosswalk and Medicare Addendum B of OPPS to set 340B modifiers correctly in EPIC ERX records.
  • Upload data to the 340B ESP platform.
  • Identify opportunities for 340B Program optimization by reviewing the split bill saving report, identifying items contributing to WAC losses, and investigating reasons for WAC purchases.
  • Participate in self and external audits for the 340B Program, collecting data, analyzing findings, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Analyze complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision making regarding clinical information systems.
  • Participate in system analysis and research on current and proposed clinical information systems.
  • Plan, develop, implement, upgrade, maintain, and evaluate clinical information systems, including documentation of processes and communication with IS and clinical services.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary and process improvement teams to identify potential future uses of information systems and improvements in current usage.
  • Develop and implement action plans to support user accuracy, data integrity, and system reliability.
  • Maintain components of information systems through revisions, system testing, and integration of changes into the operational environment.
  • Participate in committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to facilitate ongoing design, implementation, and revision of automated and manual components of clinical information systems.
  • Maintain open and active communication with vendors and facilitate communication between vendors and clinical staff.
  • Maintain communication among clinical user groups to identify issues, facilitate timely resolutions, and coordinate with IS, pharmacy, and other clinical services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and advances in Pharmacy and Healthcare Informatics, hardware, software, operating systems, applications, operational analysis, and protocols.
  • Maintain knowledge of Pharmacy practices, regulatory standards, organizational policies, legal implications, and organizational direction to support users and process teams.
  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
