Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for pharmacy informatics supporting ambulatory operations and services.
  • Focus on optimizing technology, workflows, and medication-use processes.
  • Design, build, implement, and support pharmacy systems (Epic, Alaris, Pyxis).
  • Participate in Clinical Decision Support and System P&T subcommittees.
  • Collaborate with Digital Services and pharmacy informatics team.
  • Maintain relationships with pharmacy staff and leadership; staff IT/Epic Willow on-call duties.
  • Develop reports to optimize workflows and troubleshoot issues.
  • Collaborate with Patient Care Finance on Epic charging questions and issues.

Pay Range: $62.92 - $94.37 per hour

Summary

The Pharmacist, Information Systems specializes in the medication process, from ordering to administration, and is responsible for effective process design, development, and implementation of Pharmacy automation, Electronic Medical Record and Clinical Decision Support. In addition, this role supports pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other clinicians as the resource for requests related to Epic and other pharmacy technology changes and additions. Required Job Qualifications
  • Registered Pharmacist in Illinois (or eligibility to be licensed in Illinois).
  • PharmD degree.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Epic Certification(s) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate responsibility and accountability for all aspects of professional practice.
  • Ability to independently problem solve, multi-task and work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • PGY1 pharmacy residency.
  • PGY2 pharmacy informatics residency.
  • System expertise in pharmacy automation including, but not limited to Epic, DoseEdge, RxWorks, RIVA, Pyxis and Alaris.
  • Understanding of medication billing and charging and provides support to systems involved.
  • Understanding of interfaces and can troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to mentor and teach residents and students.
  • Ability to demonstrate Rush ICARE values.
Physical Demands
  • May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including but not limited to chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Primarily responsible for pharmacy informatics supporting ambulatory pharmacy operations and services, with a focus on optimizing technology, workflows, and medication-use processes across the ambulatory setting.
  • Works on the technology, systems, and strategic initiatives that support medication use across the organization, wherever a medication is prescribed, dispensed, administered, monitored, or otherwise utilized.
  • Responsible for the design, build, implementation, and support of pharmacy systems, including but not limited to Epic, Alaris, and Pyxis.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings including but not limited to, Clinical Decision Support, System Pharmacy and Therapeutics or one of the nine subcommittees of System P&T.
  • Collaborates effectively with the Department of Digital and Information Services and the pharmacy informatics team.
  • Maintain appropriate working relationships with pharmacy staff, managers, and leaders.
  • Evaluates Epic changes prior to implementation and participates in integrated testing scenarios as necessary.
  • Responsible for staffing roles including but not limited to: IT/Epic Willow on-call, pharmacist staffing shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Develops and utilizes reports from various systems to optimize workflows and troubleshoot issues.
  • Collaborates with Patient Care Finance on questions and issues related to charging in Epic.
  • Collaborate with the Budget and Internal Audit departments on implementing new costs on a bi-annual basis.
  • Responsible for adhering to department policies and procedures.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of interfaces, charge capture, revenue stream, 340B, purchasing, and pricing.
  • Consistently works towards the department's mission and vision, along with the strategic plan devised by the Chief Pharmacy Officer.
  • Required to work with pharmacy residents and students for training and precepting purposes.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for all aspects of professional practice.
  • Consistently strives to improve liaisons with other professionals and department.
