Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between providers and insurers to optimize medication therapy.
  • Dispense specialty medications with proper communication, labeling, and packaging.
  • Coordinate mail order services for specialty medications.
  • Educate patients, providers, and staff on therapy requirements and monitoring.
  • Precept students and residents and provide inservices for staff.

Job Description
Job Summary

Responsible for delivering and overseeing specialty pharmacy services to optimize patient care, medication access, and safety. Coordinates prescription processing, workflow improvement, and patient counseling while supporting ambulatory clinics and infusion services. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to implement safe practices, manage pharmacy systems, and ensure regulatory compliance. Provides direct patient-centered care, supports immunization and diagnostic programs, and facilitates formulary review and education initiatives. Enhances specialty pharmacy operations through system optimization, process improvement, and integration of pharmaceutical care across clinical settings.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and maintains clinical pharmacy pathways for specialty medication therapy initiation and monitoring.
  • Oversees access to care services, including benefits investigation, prior authorization, and patient assistance programs.
  • Functions as liaison between providers and health insurers to optimize medication therapy and advocate for patient access.
  • Participates in peer-to-peer reviews to support medication access as permitted.
  • Dispenses specialty medications, ensuring proper communication, labeling, packaging, and cold chain distribution.
  • Fulfills REMS responsibilities and coordinates mail order services for specialty medications.
  • Educates patients, providers, and staff on specialty medication therapy and monitoring requirements.
  • Precepts students and residents, and provides inservices for nursing and clinic staff.
  • Engages in professional development through meetings, continuing education, research, and publications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement

Bachelor's Degree or PharmD Degree from an ACPE accredited school of Pharmacy

Experience Requirement

0-2 years of experience in pharmacy operations, or a relevant area with knowledge of TJC, USP 797, 795 and 800, and federal and state regulations

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

All experience must be paid and in the same related field.

Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.

Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.

Certifications & Licensures

Ohio Pharmacist license obtained within 90 days of hire if applicable for work location.

Licensed Pharmacist in applicable state, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire
