Job summary

Northeastern Health System in Tahlequah, OK seeks a Staff Pharmacist to provide consultative services to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff. The pharmacist will dispense and compound medications with attention to safety and quality, and monitor drug therapy to recommend modifications when necessary.

The role involves liaising with clinicians, conducting Drug Utilization Reviews, ensuring secure storage of controlled substances, delivering meds to units, and contributing to QA and reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy and completion of a 5-year program from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy Intern Pharmacist Certificate is required.
  • Hospital pharmacy rotations or related clinical experience preferred.

Description
Position Summary

Provides consultative services to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff. Provides prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals. Compounds medications according to professional standards and practices.

Position Accountabilities
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Performs traditional distributive duties of a staff pharmacist.
  • Exchanges unit doses drawers, compares MAR to Pharmacy Profile, drawer contents to MAR, and performs concurrent DUE.
  • Monitors drug therapy and suggests alternate or modified drug therapy when appropriate.

  • Acts as a liaison with nursing and medical staff concerning prescriptions, orders, drug and pharmaceutical detail, patient reactions, errors, and complaints.
  • Conducts Drug Utilization Reviews and prepares Drug Review Criteria for medical staff review and approval.
  • Participates in QA review; regularly documents inspection of all medication centers.
  • Researches drug information requests and responds promptly.
  • Advises patients and family on use of various medications including dosage, side effects, and composition.
  • Consults with and advises medical staff personnel regarding utilization of drugs and pharmaceuticals.
  • Assists in preparing required reports by compiling information.
  • Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours.
  • Provides pharmaceutical care to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient using the knowledge/skills unique to the requirements of each age group to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Ensures secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances on a regular basis.
  • Checks stock on a regular basis to identify and reorder outdated stock and ensure that stock is maintained in accordance with manufacturer requirements.
  • Assists in preparing required reports by compiling information.
  • Processes patient charges for pharmaceuticals as required.
  • Prepares and makes deliveries to patient units and ancillary departments.
  • Performs direct patient care as approved by the medical staff.
  • Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Requirements
  • Minimum Education - Bachelor's Degree
  • Required Course(s) / Training - Completion of 5 year program from accredited school of pharmacy
  • Required Certification / Registration - Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy Intern Pharmacist Certificate
  • Preferred Certification/Registration - Hospital Pharmacy and Hospital Pharmacy - related clinical rotations.
  • Preferred Certification/Registration - Pharm. D. Degree
  • Management Experience - Excellent human relations and oral/written communications skills. Management experience in hospital/health care environment. Proven managerial skills.
