Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner for the Birmingham VA Health Care System, Huntsville Clinic. The CPP will be assigned to PACT in primary care and will support the Close to Me Oncology program.

As workload increases, duties shift toward oncology care and may include other subspecialties. Qualifications include an ACPE-accredited Pharm.D. or foreign degree with FPGEC, full licensure in the U.S., and relevant experience; PGY2 Oncology preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be a Doctor of Pharmacy with ACPE accreditation or foreign degree with FPGEC proof.
• Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in any US state/DC/territory.
• Time-in-grade requirements for federal employment apply for current federal staff.
• Preferred PGY2 Oncology residency and oncology experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and medication management in ambulatory care per scope of practice.
• Coordinate medication therapy across PACT and expanding oncology duties as workload grows.
• Design, implement, monitor, and document therapeutic plans for patients.
• Order and review labs/tests to assess efficacy and safety of therapies.
• Participate in telehealth and cross-coverage as needed to ensure care continuity.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 09/23/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation - but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. • The primary responsibility is coordination and provision of medication management to patients at the Birmingham VA Health Care System and its Community Based Outpatient Clinics
• This includes - but is not limited to - the following: initiating - modifying - or discontinuing medication therapy
• designing - implementing - assessing - monitoring and documenting therapeutic plans utilizing the most effective - least toxic and most economical medication treatments
