Job summary

The Pharmacists are responsible for the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients, including processing medication and IV orders and advancing rational, patient-oriented therapy within the Clinical Oncology department.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) requiring a BS degree and Illinois Pharmacist registration, with compensation based on experience, starting at $109,408.00 and a $10,000 sign-on bonus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pharmaceutical care and process medication orders, including IV orders.
• Supervise and mentor technicians and new pharmacists to ensure quality service.
• Verify work of technicians for accuracy and completeness.
• Support antibiotic stewardship and PI/QA activities in the Pharmacy.
• Prepare and check patient medications accurately as ordered by physicians.
• Educate patients on medication use and effects and ensure formulary adherence.
• Monitor for allergies, drug interactions, and appropriate therapies.
• Maintain controlled substances security and Pyxis inspections.

Job Description

The Pharmacists are responsible for the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients, including processing medication and IV orders and the advancement of rational, patient-oriented therapy. They act as the primary advocate for insuring the quality and cost-effectiveness of drug use in the hospital by serving as the primary resource for drug information for Physicians, Nurses and patients.

Department: Clinical Oncology

Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours a week required

Pay: Based on experience, starting at $109,408.00

Responsibilities

• Assists customers with inquiries, questions and concerns.
• Assists in training technicians and new pharmacists in order to insure quality pharmaceutical service.
• Supervises and verifies the work of technicians for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist the pharmacy in all performance improvement and quality assurance activities such as anticoagulation monitoring, SCIP, medication reconciliation, BMV, etc.
• Perform daily pharmacist duties as appropriate: Interprets, prepares and checks patient medications, as ordered by physicians, accurately and in a timely manner.
• Accurately clarifies physician orders to insure that the prescription does not result in an improper dose or create another type of hazard if filled as prescribed.
• Monitors patient therapies for allergies, drug interactions and appropriateness.
• Accurately prepares admixtures (including IVs, irrigations, T.P.N. and cancer chemotherapeutic agents).
• Provides pertinent drug information to the medical and nursing staffs.
• Instructs and educates patients on the proper use and effects of medication.
• Consistently enforces the drug formulary by contacting physicians on appropriate non-formulary orders.
• Perform all necessary functions of the pharmacy pharmacokinetics service.
• Perform Antibiotic stewardship functions.
• Perform assigned PI/QA responsibility in a timely manner.
• Perform nursing station and Pyxis inspections as assigned, submitting reports in a timely manner.
• Provide for appropriate and secure regulation and distribution of controlled substances.
• Record all clinical interventions.
• Reduce or eliminate medication errors.
• Remain well informed regarding the actions of the Pharmacy & Thermodynamic Committee.

Compensation

• Estimated Compensation Range $109,408.00 - $169,582.40 Pay based on experience
