Position Summary

• Have a working knowledge of all areas of pharmaceutical services provided by Central Valley Specialty Hospital, including drug distribution systems, central operations, and IV admixture.
• Interpret physician's orders for medications, compound and dispense prescribed drugs.
• Maintain records on all medication orders filled for inpatient use and compute and record charges.
• Evaluate pharmacological, chemical, or physical incompatibilities in physician's orders and communicate the evaluation to physicians.
• Participate in distribution of medications to patients and educate them on their medications.
• Dispense floor stock controlled substances and maintain inventory records.
• Respond to emergency needs of the department at any time when called upon by the Director or designee.
• Advise the Director of malfunctioning equipment, maintenance problems, and any unusual situations, occurrences, conditions, reactions, or effects related to drugs, drug requests, usage or security.
• Work cooperatively with all hospital employees and patients and encourage and maintain good personal and business relationships with them.
• Be available as needed for on‑call service and may assist in the teaching of students and house staff where applicable.
• Perform other duties as needed. This position does not provide direct patient care.
