Position Summary
This role is responsible for efficient, ethical, and lawful compounding and dispensing of prescription pharmaceuticals. The pharmacist advises customers on the use and storage of prescription and non‑prescription drugs, orders and maintains the supply of pharmaceutical stock, and oversees pharmacy technicians as needed.
Pharmacy hours: Monday–Friday 9:00‑19:00, Saturday 9:00‑16:00, Sunday 11:00‑16:00. Closed on major holidays.
Responsibilities
- Receive prescription and refill requests from customers and/or clinics and fill prescriptions accurately, efficiently, and courteously.
- Dispense medications as prescribed; oversee accurate retrieval, counting, weighing, mixing, packaging, and labeling of products.
- Provide medication counseling and advise customers on prescription and over‑the‑counter medications regarding usage, dosage, drug interactions, side effects, and storage.
- Order, stock, check inventory, and perform cycle counts for both prescription and over‑the‑counter items, maintaining familiarity with department products.
- Review and validate received orders for quantity, quality, weight/condition, and ensure all products are stored appropriately.
- Handle outdated or damaged products per established guidelines.
- Maintain pharmacy records, including customer profiles, insurance forms, POS data, inventories, and controlled substance registries.
- Lead and/or supervise pharmacy technicians and interns to ensure efficient and accurate service.
- Communicate with the Pharmacy Manager about potential concerns.
- Keep the department clean, well‑stocked, and compliant with company standards.
- Implement pharmacy programs such as security measures, immunizations, and other clinical programs as appropriate.
- Provide clinical care services as assigned.
- Maintain current knowledge of legal regulations, industry trends, and best pharmacy practices; recommend improvements to programs and processes to ensure legal compliance.
- Understand and communicate company service and loyalty programs, modeling high standards of customer service.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (required), Doctorate preferred.
- Three years of experience in a pharmaceutical department.
- State pharmacy license in good standing.
- Immunization certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security rules, pharmacy laws, and guidelines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong customer service and organizational abilities.
- Leadership ability in a hands‑on environment.
- Completion of required continuing education hours and maintenance of pharmacy license.
- Working knowledge of perpetual inventory procedures.
- Proficient with Word and Excel.
- Bilingual skills helpful.
Physical Requirements
May be required to lift or move up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Employees must stand and walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently. Work is performed in a retail environment with variable temperatures and exposure to outdoor weather. Noise level is low to moderate. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
