Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality assurances, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Enter data to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
  • Uphold professionalism and confidentiality with coworkers and patients.

Job description

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Clinical Operations and in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and CEO, this position composes or dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals to patients ensuring accuracy while maintaining the overall flow of the pharmacy functions and overseeing Pharmacy Technicians. The requirements include patient service, medication distribution, inventory control systems and knowledge of pharmacy operations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review prescriptions issued by a physician or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed.
  • Compound medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • Answer questions and provide information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Review patient prescription profiles to prevent drug/drug interactions and drug/allergy interactions.
  • Supervise pharmacy staff engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a drug formulary that allows practitioners to provide appropriate drug therapy while properly utilizing resources of both the patient and his/her third party.
  • Consult physicians, mid‑level practitioners, and nurses on drug therapy, giving recommendations based on primary literature and practice guidelines as well as patient variables and drug cost.
  • Mandate procedures concerning quality assurances, security of control substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Enter data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
  • Maintain a courteous, helpful and conscientious attitude in dealing with co‑workers and patients and their families, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Conform to all state and company regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university.
  • MUST be licensed to practice in the State of Michigan and must have a minimum of three years of experience with current knowledge of pharmacy laws. Retail/community practice experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Must have general computer proficiency.
  • Must possess the ability to perform mathematical functions necessary for interpreting and reporting information related to the clinical, administrative and operational activities of the pharmacy.
  • Must have high analytical and problem‑solving abilities, drawing valid conclusions after consulting data from various sources.
  • Must interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
  • Must have strong organization skills with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Must discuss drug therapies with providers and maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Must be flexible, capable of working independently and with minimal guidance.
