Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited program.
  • Licensed Pharmacist in Michigan.
  • Comprehensive background check and drug screening per NHBP standards.
  • Experience handling confidential information and HIPAA compliance.
  • Ability to adjust schedule as needed or required.
  • Understand or appreciate Native American culture and customs.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care at the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi's (NHBP) retail pharmacy site in Battle Creek, Michigan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare medications by reviewing and assessing orders to identify, prevent and resolve drug related problems such as drug-to-drug interactions, patient allergies, and conflict with underlying medical conditions.
  • Perform drug utilization reviews and check for drug interactions when filling every prescription.
  • Dispense medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects.
  • Evaluate medication use patterns and outcomes for patients.
  • Provide consultation with other health care providers to coordinate therapeutic goals to obtain the best patient treatment.
  • Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems to scan prescriptions and process payments (cash, credit, debit).
  • Maintain all medication records required by law.
  • Answer telephone calls from patients about pharmacy processes, pharmacology, adverse reactions, and other information.
  • Report concerns/complaints involving the pharmacy services to the Pharmacy Director for resolution.
  • Maintain the proper pharmaceutical stores of desired quality and quantity on site.
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Comply with accepted standards of care, confidentiality and privacy laws, and policies and procedures of the NHBP in performing duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited pharmacy program.
  • Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Michigan
  • Complete and pass a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening in accordance with NHBP standards.
  • Experience working with highly confidential and sensitive information and both preserving and maintaining confidential and sensitive information, which includes following HIPAA requirements.
  • Able to adjust schedule as needed or required.
  • Understand or gain knowledge of and appreciate the Native American culture and customs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • Two years' experience in Retail Pharmacy
SECURITY SENSITIVE

This position will involve access to information that is security sensitive and thereby subject to additional provisions. All information obtained will be protected under NHBP/IHS/HIPAA policies, rules, and regulations.

Indian preference will be applied in the selection of qualified applicants in accordance with the NHBP Indian Preference in Employment Code, which affords employment preference to NHBP Tribal Citizens, spouse/parents of NHBP Citizens, and members of other federally and Tribally recognized tribes.
