Job summary

Slalom is seeking a Pharma R&D Data & AI Strategist to translate ambitious scientific, business, Data, and AI strategies into measurable R&D outcomes. You will partner with senior R&D leaders, scientists, and technology partners to modernize data and AI enablement across discovery to portfolio management.

You will drive executive workshops, build value-based roadmaps, and shape data products and governance to accelerate research productivity and decision quality.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences R&D, or consulting to R&D organizations.
• Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical R&D lifecycle, with depth in Research & Discovery and/or Clinical Development.
• Experience working with Research and/or Clinical data.
• Experience translating strategy into execution through use-case portfolios, data products, MVPs, roadmaps, backlogs, OKRs, and value realization.
• Strong executive communication, workshop facilitation, storytelling, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
• Ability to operate effectively with scientific stakeholders and deeply technical Data & AI teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop Data & AI strategies for pharmaceutical R&D, linking scientific priorities to actionable roadmaps across Research and Development.
• Partner with R&D leaders to identify and prioritize high-value Data & AI opportunities based on impact and feasibility.
• Shape Data & AI strategies across target identification, disease biology, computational biology, medicinal chemistry, and translational research.
• Help clients unlock value from Research data including compounds, genomics, imaging, biomarkers, and related datasets.
• Help clients unlock value from Clinical data including study, site, subject, endpoint, laboratory, and safety data.
• Translate R&D outcomes and AI use cases into data products, platform capabilities, governance, and operating models.
• Define domain-oriented and data product strategies to improve data accessibility and reuse.
• Establish AI-ready data foundations with metadata, ontologies, and knowledge graphs.
• Design Data & AI operating models for governance, ownership, funding, and collaboration.
• Shape strategies for GenAI and agentic AI across research assistants and automated workflows.
• Connect AI ambitions to enterprise tech platforms like Databricks, Azure, AWS, Snowflake.
• Facilitate executive workshops to align stakeholders on vision and executable roadmaps.
• Define business cases, value frameworks, OKRs, and KPIs tied to research productivity and speed to patients.
• Translate strategy into execution via MVPs, backlogs, and governance gates.
• Advise leaders on organizational readiness and change required to embed Data & AI.
