Job summary

The City of Montgomery, AL seeks a Petroleum Equipment Maintenance Technician to operate and service a petroleum service truck and perform preventive maintenance on city fuel sites and shop equipment.

Responsibilities include ordering fuels, maintaining records, and repairing liquid fuel dispensers, pumps, piping, valves and vapor recovery systems; the role requires independent judgment and availability for on-call duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1 year of petroleum equipment service/repair experience.
• Qualifying education, training, and experience will be considered.
• Must possess Alabama driver's license; CDL with HazMat and Tanker endorsements within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate and service a petroleum service truck and fuel/lubricant dispensing to city vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Order petroleum and alternative fuels and maintain daily records of products and service activity.
• Repair and rebuild liquid fuel dispensers, pumps, piping, valves and vapor recovery systems.
• Maintain and repair other related shop equipment and perform preventive maintenance.

Job description

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to operate, maintain, and perform preventive maintenance and skilled repairs on fuel sites and automotive shop support equipment across various city locations. The employee operates and services a petroleum service truck, including dispensing fuel and lubricants to city vehicles, trucks, and heavy off-road equipment. Work responsibilities include ordering petroleum and alternative fuels, servicing all city-owned vehicles, maintaining daily records of all petroleum products and service records, and repairing and rebuilding liquid fuel dispensers, pumps, piping, valves, vapor recovery systems, and special equipment. This position requires considerable independent judgment in maintaining adequate petroleum supplies and departmental materials. The Petroleum Equipment Maintenance Technician reports to the Petroleum Maintenance Superintendent.

High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in petroleum equipment service and repair or related mechanical repair field.

NOTE:Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license.Within six (6) months of employment, must be able to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazardous Material and Tanker Endorsements. Must be available for on-call duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to loud noise and adverse weather conditions such as rain, extreme heat, or cold. Physical requirements include the ability to reach above shoulder level, lift up to 100 pounds unassisted, walk, crawl, bend, stoop, stand for extended periods, and operate a motor vehicle and equipment.
