Job summary

OWL Services is seeking a Petroleum Construction Helper to support installation, removal, and modification of underground and aboveground storage tanks and related fuel systems. This hands-on role works with a field crew under a Lead or Project Manager, requiring dependability, safety awareness, and willingness to learn in a physically demanding environment.

The position involves frequent travel and overnight assignments.

Qualifications

  • Previous construction experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with USTs/ASTs, fuel piping, or petroleum equipment is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to learn petroleum construction methods.
  • Must have valid driver's license and be able to travel.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physically demanding construction work capability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation and removal of USTs, ASTs, fuel piping and related equipment.
  • Support Petroleum Construction Lead and crew with daily site activities.
  • Load, unload, stage, and organize tools and materials.
  • Assist with excavation, tank setting, piping installation and backfilling.
  • Help install tank sumps, spill containment and vent piping.
  • Assist with measuring, layout, and checking elevations.
  • Read basic construction plans and site layouts with guidance.
  • Operate hand/power tools and construction equipment as trained.
  • Help keep site clean, safe, and organized.
  • Follow PPE, safety policies and report hazards promptly.
  • Assist with inventory and coordination with subcontractors.
  • Work cooperatively with customers and team members.

Position Summary

The Petroleum Construction Helper supports the installation, replacement, and modification of underground storage tanks (USTs), aboveground storage tanks (ASTs), fuel piping systems, and related petroleum equipment.

This is a hands‑on construction position that works as part of a field crew under the direction of a Petroleum Construction Lead or Project Manager. The successful candidate should be dependable, safety-minded, willing to learn, and capable of working in a physically demanding construction environment.

The position requires frequent travel and overnight/out-of-town work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation and removal of USTs, ASTs, fuel piping, and related petroleum equipment.
  • Assist the Petroleum Construction Lead and other crew members with daily construction activities.
  • Load, unload, stage, and organize tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with excavation, tank setting, piping installation, backfilling, concrete preparation, and other construction activities.
  • Assist with the installation of tank sumps, spill containment, drop tubes, vent piping, and other petroleum equipment.
  • Assist with measuring, layout, and verifying dimensions and elevations as directed by the Lead.
  • Learn to read and understand basic construction plans, drawings, and site layouts.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment as trained and authorized.
  • Assist with site preparation, cleanup, and restoration.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working condition.
  • Keep the jobsite clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and jobsite safety procedures.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or other concerns to the Lead or Project Manager.
  • Assist with material and equipment inventory.
  • Follow instructions from the Petroleum Construction Lead and Project Manager.
  • Work cooperatively with coworkers, subcontractors, general contractors, and customers.
  • Perform other construction‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Previous construction experience is preferred but not required.
  • Previous petroleum, fuel system, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, or utility construction experience is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to learn petroleum construction methods and equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
  • Safety‑conscious attitude.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel regularly and work overnight/out of town as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding construction work.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working on construction sites.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools.
  • Experience working around heavy equipment.
  • Basic understanding of construction plans and drawings.
  • Previous experience with USTs, ASTs, fuel piping, or petroleum equipment.
  • OSHA or other applicable safety training.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Travel Requirements

This position requires frequent travel, including overnight and out‑of‑town assignments. The Petroleum Construction Helper must be willing and able to travel to project locations as needed and remain on‑site for the duration of assigned work.

Position Expectations

The Petroleum Construction Helper is expected to be a dependable and safety-focused member of the construction team. The Helper should demonstrate a willingness to learn the petroleum construction trade, develop technical skills, and take on increasing responsibility as experience and competency are demonstrated.

Successful Helpers will have the opportunity to develop their skills in UST and AST installation, fuel piping, petroleum equipment installation, construction practices, plan reading, site layout, and field leadership as they progress within the organization.
