Job summary

Mayerson JCC in Cincinnati is seeking a Peter Pan JR Music Director to oversee all musical aspects of the production, including teaching the score, casting input, and rehearsing singers. The Music Director will also serve as an assistant director, familiar with blocking and note-taking to support smooth performances.

Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5–7:00pm and Sundays 1–4pm from January 2026 through April 2026, with additional tech week days. Show dates are April 14, 15, and 18.

Qualifications

• Experience in musical theatre and music direction for productions.
• Ability to teach the score and rehearse singers.
• Familiar with blocking, note-taking, and assisting with stage direction.

POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with other members of our show’s creative team, the Music Director will oversee all musical aspects of our musical production, including assisting with casting performers, teaching the score, and rehearsing singers. The Music Director’s job is to understand how songs and music serve a show’s story, setting, drama, and emotional context, and to bring out those critical elements in high quality and consistent performances.

The music director will also function as the assistant director for the rest of the production. Candidates should be familiar with blocking, note-taking, assistant teaching, helping manage student behavior, and assisting with stage management.

Rehearsals for “Peter Pan JR” are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 – 7:00pm and Sunday from 1 -4pm starting January 2026 through April 2026 with additional days for tech week. Show dates are April 14, 15, and 18 with tech rehearsals running from March 29 – April 12. There are no Friday or Saturday obligations.

CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Comfortable working with children ages 5 – 14
• Experience in musical theatre
• Strong music skills and music instruction experience with children
• Ability to read music and play piano
• Strong communication and organizational skills and is personally engaging and friendly
• Assist the Theatre Director to ensure that all musical numbers are successful
