Job summary

US Oncology Inc. is seeking a PET Imaging Technologist Assistant to support the PET Technologist in daily operations. You will provide patient care, assist with IVs, phlebotomy, and glucose checks, and help manage charts and logs across multiple clinics.

Responsibilities include ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining rooms and supplies, and complying with HIPAA/OSHA. Some travel to other clinics and routine PACS tasks may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical background and CPR certification required.
  • Phlebotomy/IV experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist PET Tech with daily operations and use critical thinking on arising issues.
  • Provide direct patient care as directed, including IVs, phlebotomy, and glucose testing.
  • Maintain communication with patients, staff, and physicians to ensure smooth workflows.
  • Assist with acquisition/processing protocols under PET Technologist direction.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort before, during, and after procedures.
  • Help with patient chart workups, daily logs, and phone calls.
  • Maintain examination rooms, stock supplies, and clean radiological equipment.
  • Support imaging PACS tasks and travel to other clinics when needed.
  • Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and department policies.

Overview

The PET Imaging Technologist Assistant is responsible for assisting the PET Technologist with the day-to-day operation.

What You’ll Do


  • Assist PET Tech with day-to-day operation while also using critical thinking on issues that may arise.

  • Provide direct patient care as directed by the technologists, including but not limited to IV’s, phlebotomies, and glucose testing.

  • Establish and maintain proper communications with patients, inter- and extra-office personnel, and physicians.

  • Possibly select appropriate acquisition and processing protocols to successfully complete exams under PET Technologist direction.

  • Ensure patient safety and comfort prior to, during, and after procedure.

  • Assist PET Technologist with patient chart workups, daily logs, and phone calls.

  • Maintains examination rooms, stocks and cleans necessary radiological supplies.

  • Assist with daily unforeseen tasks that may arise. Assist with monitoring Microsoft Teams add on group and emails to include Research Measurement sheets.

  • May complete tasks on Imaging PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication System).

  • Willingness to travel to other clinics when necessary.

  • Adhere to the ILCC employee handbook, facility, and department policies and procedures, and observe HIPAA and OSHA.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


What We’re Looking For

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Medical Background

  • Possess current CPR Certification


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Preferred



  • Have completed a course, minimum two years, in a Radiologic Program approved by the American Registry of Radiation Technology.

  • Employee licensed by IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency-Division of Nuclear Safety).

  • Possess some knowledge in other imaging modalities.

  • Phlebotomy/IV experience and/or phlebotomy certificate

  • Completed Medical Terminology Course


SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Require manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. May have to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. May have to help lift patients weighing up to 300 pounds and place them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Require eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review developed films. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. Require ability to endure frequent and extended periods of standing and walking.


SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS/TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Technologists may be exposed to communicable disease, toxic substances, ionized radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment and are expected to be familiar with the dangers and proper handling of such. Safety policies and good health practices need to be understood and observed.
