Qualifications

• 2+ years as a certified nuclear technologist.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduate of an approved school of nuclear medicine and certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs PET and Nuclear Medicine procedures following the radiologist's protocols and the procedure manual. Ensures proper patient positioning and that the physician prescription and scan match.
• Inputs all required patient information into the system, including protocol, patient history in full sentences, performing providers and any additional notes to the radiologist.
• Obtains complete patient history to assist radiologist with diagnosis; checks blood glucose levels; performs exams accurately and in a timely manner.
• Orders radiopharmaceuticals daily and performs daily QA to ensure equipment functioning; conducts daily survey meter checks.
• Calibrates dose to match prescribed range, uses aseptic technique for radiopharmaceutical administration, and records receipt and disposal details.
• Processes documents/reviews needing signatures to the Radiation Safety Officer in a timely manner.
• conducts daily surveys and weekly wipe tests on equipment; disposes of biohazardous waste per policy.
• Reports accidents involving radioactive substances to Radiation Safety Officer and documents clean-up per guidelines.
• Identifies patients properly, maintains confidentiality, and explains exams to ensure safety and cooperation.
• Provides excellent customer service throughout the patient experience.

Job Title: PRN Nuclear Medicine Technologist

JOB SUMMARY

The PRN PET/Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs a variety of PET and Nuclear Medicine procedures in an outpatient setting while maintaining a high level of customer service and quality patient care. The responsibilities of the PRN Nuclear Medicine Technologist include coordinating and performing PET and Nuclear Medicine procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist and demonstrating compassion to ensure overall patient satisfaction. This is a PRN position and will be scheduled on an as needed basis.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• 1. Performs PET and Nuclear Medicine procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist and as written in the procedure manual. Patients are positioned and scanned correctly assuring that the physician prescription and the scan are the same.
• 2. Properly inputs all required patient information into the system including protocol, patient history in full sentences, performing providers, and any additional information to the radiologist regarding the procedure.
• 3. Obtains complete and detailed history to assist the radiologist with diagnosis from each patient. Checks blood glucose levels for all patients. Performs exams in an accurate and timely manner.
• 4. Orders radiopharmaceuticals on a daily basis. Performs daily QA to assure proper functioning of equipment and also performs daily check of survey meters.
• 5. Calibrates dose to be in the range of prescribed dose in dose calibrator. Uses aseptic technique to administer radiopharmaceuticals according to the established policy. Records reciept of the radioactive unit doses from the point of administration to disposal including date, method of receipt, identity and activity of the unit dose.
• 6. Processes all documents and paperwork that requires review and/or signatures to the RSO in a timely manner as required by the Bureau of Radiation Control.
• 7. Conducts surveys daily and wipes tests weekly on the scan bed, injection table and preparation counter to insure that no spills or leakage has occurred. Disposes of all biohazardous wastes as required by established policy.
• 8. Reports any accidents involving radioactive substances to radiation safety officer and documents the clean-up process following established guidelines.
• 9. Properly identifies patients and demonstrates compassion while maintaining patient confidentiality. Explains the exam to each patient to ensure patient safety and cooperation.
• 10. Customer Service.

WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

2 or more years as a certified nuclear technologist is preferred.

High School Diploma or GED.

Graduate of an approved school of nuclear medicine. Registered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
