Responsibilities

  • Safely walk dogs outdoors in varied weather.
  • Bathe, brush and dry dogs; assist with nails, ears and related grooming.
  • Keep kennels and grooming areas clean and sanitary.
  • Provide fresh water and monitor pets’ comfort and safety.
  • Assist with general housekeeping and supply restocking.
  • Support inventory and follow safety guidelines for a safe workplace.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and understand hospital procedures.
  • Maintain professionalism while supporting leadership and team.
  • Participate in staff events and meetings as needed.
  • Support additional grooming and patient care tasks as directed.

About You

We are looking for a compassionate, dependable Groomer/Bather to join our veterinary hospital team. In this hands-on role, you will help provide a clean, safe, and comfortable experience for pets while supporting our team with bathing, basic grooming services, animal care, cleaning, and client service. The ideal candidate is patient, attentive, team-oriented, and comfortable working with animals of various sizes, temperaments, and energy levels.

Responsibilities
  • Safely walk dogs outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Bathe, brush, and dry dogs, including basic grooming support such as nail trims, ear cleaning, and expressing anal glands as appropriate.
  • Clean kennels, cages, grooming areas, and shared workspaces by removing waste, cleaning urine, and maintaining a sanitary environment.
  • Provide fresh water and monitor pets for comfort, cleanliness, and safety while in the hospital’s care.
  • Assist with general housekeeping duties throughout the assigned area, including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and restocking supplies.
  • Support inventory and follow OSHA, safety, and sanitation guidelines to help maintain a safe work environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a practical understanding of hospital procedures, services, and policies.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times while supporting practice leadership, management, fellow team members, clients, and patients.
  • Participate in staff meetings, hospital functions, open houses, community efforts, and special events as needed. Be prepared to present topics at the occasional staff meetings.
  • Support additional hospital, grooming, and patient care needs as directed by leadership.
Qualifications and skills
  • Prior animal handling, bathing, grooming, kennel, boarding, or veterinary hospital experience required.
  • Comfortable working with dogs of different sizes, breeds, temperaments, and handling needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
  • Ability to stay alert, observe pet behavior and condition, and follow hospital safety protocols.
  • Compassionate, dependable, and able to maintain a positive, team-focused approach in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback, problem solve, ask for help when needed, and assist teammates when possible.
  • Strong reading, comprehension, and legible writing skills for accurate documentation and communication.
Physical Requirements

The physical requirements listed below may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including on concrete flooring for long shifts.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting, squatting, reaching, balancing, typing, and writing throughout the day.
  • Ability to move animals from cage to cage, floor to floor, and room to room as needed.
  • Ability to safely restrain animals up to 200 pounds intermittently and lift animals up to 50 pounds, with assistance for animals over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain focus and alertness to help prevent injury to self, patients, clients, and team members.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to loud noises, including barking dogs, dryers, and other grooming or hospital equipment.
  • Exposure to wet floors, cleaning products, animal waste, odors, and potential slip or fall hazards.
  • Potential exposure to bites, scratches, and other risks associated with handling animals.
  • Outdoor work may be required in hot, cold, rainy, or other changing weather conditions.
