Job summary

General Mills is hiring a Research & Development Scientist, Pet Food in Minneapolis, MN, to join the R&D Leadership Development Program. You will gain 2-3 experiences focusing on technical foundations, functional depth, and professional development while building digital skills in data analysis and project management.

You will create new pet food products, improve formulas, and collaborate across teams to deliver consumer-focused innovations, with relocation assistance offered for February 2027

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in Animal Science, Animal Nutrition or related field (expected graduation Winter 2026 or Spring 2027).
• Strong academic record and commitment to developing technical and business skills.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in academics, projects, or prior work experience.

Responsibilities

• Create new pet food products with consumer-first design.
• Improve existing products and optimize formulas for pet and pet parent appeal, manufacturing, and cost.
• Apply animal science knowledge and ingredient functionality to develop remarkable products.
• Champion food safety, pet safety, and product quality from design through production.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to grow our businesses.
• Develop understanding of product development, formulation, and commercialization through pilot plant trials.
• Engage external partners to increase efficiency and identify new capabilities.
• Interact with pet parents and customers to translate insights into concepts and offerings.
• Develop technical depth and business acumen and apply digital tools to accelerate learning.
