Under the supervision of the Radiology Medical Director, you will perform PET/CT procedures, maintain ALARA safety, and contribute to quality assurance. You will teach and support staff and students as needed, while maintaining excellent patient care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.
  • Experience as a PET/CT technologist preferred.
  • Must understand ALARA principles and safety protocols.

  • Receives and verifies orders; documents patient data and procedures.

Description

We are looking for a PRN PET/CT tech in our Center City Philadelphia location to help cover PTO days during the week and weekends. The shifts and hours vary by day. We also pay for our employees parking.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Radiology Medical Director, the PET/CT technologist:

  • Administers radioactive material to patients for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes & operates a positron emission technology (PET) and a computerized tomography scanner (CT) at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Ensures services are performed in a safe environment in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as part of the imaging center team and seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Receives, relays, and documents verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient's medical record.
  • Corroborates patient's clinical history with physicians order and procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner. May also verify informed consent, if applicable.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
  • Identifies, prepares, positions patient, and competently performs procedure by using established PET/CT protocols or as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner for diagnostic interpretation or intervention, to achieve the highest quality image.
  • Applies principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Performs venipuncture and maintains intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Identifies, prepares, and/or administers medications, and/or radioactive isotopes as prescribed by and under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Conducts POC Creatinine clearance testing in accordance with established PET/CT protocols or as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Provides education to patients, as well as students and other health care providers.
  • Performs ongoing quality assurance activities.
  • As required, instructs students and residents and performs preceptor duties as necessary.
  • Provides optimal patient care by applying established and accepted protocols.
  • Determines that all procedural requirements are in place to achieve a quality diagnostic or therapeutic procedure.
  • Manipulates and reconstructs digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring proper identification is evident.
  • Maintains archival storage of digital data as appropriate.
  • Assists in maintaining supply inventory.
  • Establishes ownership of clinical area by taking pride in appearance and readiness of exam rooms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates consistent use of AIDET (Acknowledge patient, Introduce yourself, provide Duration/timeline for test, Explain the test, & Thank them for choosing our center) and HEAL ( Hear them out, Empathize, Apologize, & Leap into action to solve) when interacting with patients/customers.
  • Takes the initiative to help other modalities/areas of the Imaging Center as assigned or when work load/area allows.
  • Selects appropriate CT technical exam factors with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Attends/participates in staff meetings, in-services, and center-wide meetings as scheduled.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE:
  • Up to 5 years experience as a PET/CT Technologist
EDUCATION:
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist as an ARRT-N or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board as a CNMT. Must maintain a current valid registration from either ARRT or CNMT. Additionally, must meet the state licensure requirement for the state in which they practice.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Skill in operation of PET/CT equipment as well as applicable ancillary equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.
  • Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.
LANGUAGE SKILLS/REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to successfully write reports, business correspondence, and policy.
  • Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors, and the general public.
  • Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and correct errors.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER LITERACY
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data.
