Job summary

MyMichigan Medical Group is seeking a PET/CT Technologist to generate fusion images using ionizing and non-ionizing radiation for diagnostic and research purposes. You will administer radiopharmaceuticals, review medical history, educate patients, and ensure accurate dose records while maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities include IV access, operating all Nuclear Medicine equipment, and contributing to QA/QI programs, with a focus on teamwork and patient-centered care in a clinical

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Healthcare or Nuclear Medicine technology.
  • NMTCB or ARRT(N) certification is required or equivalent.
  • BLS certification required with hire/transfer within 1 month.

Responsibilities

  • Injects and administers PET radiopharmaceuticals and records activity in dose tracking system.
  • Review patient history, instruct patient, ensure proper preparation and safety.
  • Perform IV access and glucose testing per protocol.
  • Operate Nuclear Medicine instrumentation and perform quality control.
  • Participate in safety protocols, inspections, QA/QI projects, and scheduling.

Job description

Summary

Under the direction of an authorized user, the PET/CT Technologist is responsible for the use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation to generate fusion images for diagnostic and research purposes.

Responsibilities
  • (20%)*Injects and administers all PET radiopharmaceuticals. Assays radiopharmaceutical activities. Calculates volume and activity concentrations for radiopharmaceuticals. Knowledge and use of dosages and/or dose ranges for radiopharmaceuticals as they are listed per protocol. Enters these records in a dose tracking system. Performs laboratory procedures including many aspects of measurement, manipulation, and preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits and unit doses.
  • (20%)*The PET/CT Technologist will review the patient's medical history to understand the patients illness and pending diagnostic procedure; instruct the patient before, during, and following the procedure; evaluate the satisfactory preparation of the patient before beginning a procedure; and recognize emergency patient conditions and initiate lifesaving first aid when appropriate.
  • (20%)*Intravenous (IV) access starting skills. Appropriate site selection. Aseptic techniques when accessing patient. Appropriately conducts Blood Glucose Testing per protocol.
  • (20%)*Operates all Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation devices. Knowledge of Quality Control requirements for all equipment used.
  • Administrative functions may include supervising other technologists, students, and other personnel; participating in procuring supplies and equipment; documenting laboratory operations; participating in radiation safety protocols and taking an active role in radiation reduction programs; participating in departmental inspections conducted by various licensing, regulatory, and accrediting agencies; participating in departmental quality assurance or quality improvement projects; and participating in scheduling patient examinations
Certifications and Licensures

Required: CNMT/ARRT(N): Nuclear Med Techs CNMT or ARRT(N)

Equivalent Experience: Must be registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(N)

Required:BLS: Basic Life Support

Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer

Required Education

Associates Degree

Equivalent Experience:Degree in Healthcare Related Field. Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine Technology as normally acquired through completion of an Associates Degree in Applied Science and 1700 hours of clinical instruction required. Two years of clinical experience in as a Nuclear Medicine technologist. Knowledge of Radiology Information System (RIS) and HIS preferred.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Wear appropriate radiation monitoring devices during radiation exposures according to safety standards.
  • Must be able to produce high quality diagnostic and research imaging with little supervision.
  • Must provide patient care, perform instrumentation and quality control, possess knowledge of radiation safety
  • Must be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to perform injection procedures.
  • Operating knowledge of personal computers and medical charting systems. Capable of a flexible work schedule.
  • Must be able to interact with patients, University personnel and customers in a responsible, professional and ethical manner.
  • Must be flexible, reliable and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
  • Responsible for the following and adhering to Joint Commission Quality Standards which includes, but is not limited to: CPR, immunizations, training, and Infection Control.
