Job summary

IU Health in Indiana seeks a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform diagnostic studies using radiopharmaceuticals and operate PET/CT or PET/MR equipment. You will fuse PET/CT or PET/MR images with CT or MR for physician interpretation, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout procedures.

The role requires BLS, 0-3 years of experience, ISDH licensure, and ARRT/NM or NMTCB certification with CT/MR progression within 18 months if needed.

Qualifications

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions correctly.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist - Nuclear Medicine or NMTCB CNMT; CT/MR certifications required within 18 months if applicable.
  • Active IN ISDH license as Nuclear Medicine Technologist and PACS/RIS knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic studies utilizing radiopharmaceuticals and operates PET/CT or PET/MR equipment for image acquisition.
  • Performs diagnostic CT or MR and fusion with PET/CT or PET/MR images for physician interpretation.
  • Maintains safety, quality control, and problem resolution related to imaging equipment.

Overview


Schedule will be 4x 10's.


Under the direction of a physician, operation manager and with supervision of CT or MR, and Nuclear Medicine section team leaders, performs diagnostic studies utilizing radiopharmaceuticals and operation of PET/CT or PET/MR equipment for image acquisition and radiopharmaceutical distribution through organs, body functions and analyze biologic specimens. Performs diagnostic CT or MR and fusion of PET/CT or PET/MR images for physician interpretation. Treats patients with care and respect.



  • Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.

  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.

  • Requires ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions when the condition of the patient does not permit routine positioning.

  • Requires active status through one of the following: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Technologist - Nuclear Medicine, RT (NM); or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB): CNMT.

  • Requires advanced certification in Computed Tomography (CT) through the American Registry of Radiology Technology (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, (NMTCB) within 18 months of hire, if working in PET CT.

  • Requires advanced certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Technologist - Magnetic Resonance, RT(MR); or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) within 18 months of hire, if working in PET MR.

  • Requires experience as a technologist working in Nuclear Medicine and as a registered CT or MR technologist, as appropriate per modality.

  • Requires current Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) license as Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

  • Requires knowledge of PACS/RIS for training and problem resolution.

  • Requires knowledge of anatomy; physiology; mathematics; chemistry; physics; biology; radiation safety; clinical nuclear instrumentation; computer operation and laboratory techniques.

  • Requires an excellent working knowledge of PET and CT or MR procedures, as appropriate per modality; the appropriate imaging protocols to be followed and in-vivo procedures.

  • Requires a strong understanding of the handling of radiopharmaceuticals during the receipt; storage; administration; and disposal process.

  • Requires an excellent working knowledge of imaging equipment and proper quality control criteria for each type of instrument being used.

  • Requires knowledge of proper laboratory procedures and a strong understanding of all hospital; state and federal policies and regulations regarding the handling of radioactive materials; hazardous chemicals; and body fluids.
