Job summary

Alberta Veterinary Clinic in Tuscaloosa, AL is seeking an Animal Care Assistant to join our team. You will tend to animals, follow feeding and hydration guidelines, and assist doctors and technicians throughout the day.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working on your feet for long periods, with dogs and cats, and enjoys teamwork. You will help keep patient areas clean, monitor conditions, and interact with clients during drop-off and pickup.

Qualifications

• Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats.
• Must be comfortable working on your feet for long periods of time
• Familiarity with basic computer programs
• Must be comfortable communicating with clients and answering phones

Responsibilities

• Patient Feeding & Hydration: Administer diets and water per staff instructions.
• Walking & Exercise: Safely walk canine patients using low-stress handling.
• Grooming & Hygiene: Bathe, dry, and groom patients as needed.
• Patient Monitoring: Observe and report changes in animal behavior or condition.
• Restraint Assistance: Safely restrain dogs and cats for exams or procedures.
• Kennel Maintenance: Clean, sanitize, and disinfect runs and cages.
• Laundry & Supplies: Wash and restock towels and bedding.
• Facility Upkeep: Maintain a clean and odor-free environment.
• Surgical Cleaning: Clean and organize surgical instruments under supervision.
• Stock & Inventory: Monitor inventory and restock supplies.
• Record Keeping: Document care observations in medical charts or software.
• Client Interaction: Greet clients and assist with discharge and handoff to owners
