Job summary

Banfield is seeking a Pet Care Assistant to support the veterinary team in delivering high-quality care for pets in a busy clinic. You will prepare exam rooms, assist during exams, run basic tests, and care for hospitalized animals, while upholding hospital protocols and the company values that prioritize pet wellbeing and client service.

Strong communication, organizational skills, and a positive team mindset are essential, with a high school diploma preferred and willingness to work weekends

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred and 18+ for certain duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Comfortable working with all types of pets and handling them as needed.
  • Experience in customer service is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and extra hours.

Position Description

Pet Care Assistant. Job Purpose: Support the veterinary team to provide the best care for pets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare exam rooms and supplies for pet treatments.
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams and procedures by holding or restraining pets.
  • Run basic lab tests (like heartworm or feline leukemia tests) as allowed by state rules.
  • Care for hospitalized pets by feeding, walking, and cleaning them and their cages.
  • Bathe pets when needed for medical reasons.
  • Clean surgical areas, instruments, and maintain overall hospital cleanliness (laundry, dishes, mopping, trash, etc.).
  • Help other team members as needed.
  • Follow hospital protocols and company values.
Skills and Qualities Needed

  • Comfortable using computers and basic math.

Work Environment

Busy, sometimes noisy, and involves handling animals that may bite or scratch. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, medications, and sometimes radiation (for x-rays).

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is $15.00 - $16.44 Hourly. The pay range listed reflects a general hiring range for the area, with the specific rate determined based on the candidate’s experience, skill level, and education, and may vary depending on location or applicable minimum wage laws.
