Job summary

Purdue University’s Office of Indiana State Chemist seeks an Analytical Chemist to support investigations by providing scientific data on pesticide-related inquiries. The role involves conducting trace-level pesticide analyses, reviewing methods, and preparing reports.

Responsibilities include performing GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, and HPLC analyses, following SOPs, validating methods, and training staff. A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and 2 years of lab experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field is required.
• 2 years of analytical laboratory experience preferred.
• Skills in Analytical Chemistry, Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical analyses on environmental samples to detect trace pesticides using extraction and instrumentation.
• Analyze samples by GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, and HPLC.
• Follow SOPs and troubleshoot analyses as needed.
• Interpret, analyze and evaluate data to determine quality control standards are met.
• Document analysis reports and submit data for review by supervisor.
• Adapt new methodologies for analyses and participate in method validation studies.
• Assist in developing new analysis methods for pesticide products and prepare research manuscripts.
