Job summary

Pregis is seeking a Press Operator in Conover, NC to operate production equipment on a 2-2-3 schedule (6 PM–6 AM) with overtime as needed. You will lead crews, verify ticket information, and ensure print quality and correct registration.

Candidates should have at least 1 year of related experience and forklift experience; you will work to maximize productivity while maintaining safety, waste reduction, and clean, safe work practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience driving a sit-down forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Lead crews in efficient operation of production equipment.
  • Read and verify job tickets; ensure components are present.
  • Maintain print quality, register and adherence to standards.
  • Operate line equipment and ancillary devices with minimal supervision.
  • Set up cylinders, plates, webs; perform minor repairs and adjustments.
  • Maintain productivity, waste and quality records; track line counts.
  • Promote learning and process improvements to reduce waste.
  • Uphold safety guidelines and keep work area clean and safe.
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules and inter-shift communication.

Press Operator

Classification: Full-Time (Hourly)

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Shifts: Days 6 PM–6 AM based on a 2‑2‑3 schedule (overtime as needed)

Compensation & Growth: Starting pay $18–$21/hr, potential to earn up to $32/hr with advancement.

Press Operator Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Consistently demonstrates leadership qualities and directs crews in the efficient operation of production equipment.
  • Reads and understands all job ticket information. Ensures all necessary components are present and does not proceed on any job with conflicting information.
  • Has a strong inline finishing skill set to ensure print quality, register equipment, and achieve acceptable registration within specified M/R standards.
  • Operates all line ancillary equipment—including gluing, labeling, straub applicators, and rotary cutter—with minimal supervision.
  • Understands tension controls and ancillary equipment. Sets up cylinders and plates, webs the line, and performs minor mechanical repairs and adjustments.
  • Operates efficiently with minimal supervision while maintaining 100% standards in productivity, waste, and quality; accurately records all codes for quantities, materials, and times.
  • Accurately tracks line counts.
  • Establishes and promotes an environment for learning and process improvement; consistently seeks improvements and efficiencies to reduce waste and increase production within quality standards.
  • Works within all safety guidelines and procedures, maintains a clean and safe work environment, and upholds departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Interacts well between shifts to facilitate a smooth transition without interruption.
Education And/or Experience
  • Minimum 1‑year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience driving a sit‑down forklift.
Environment
  • Exposure to moving equipment.
  • Inside work.
  • Heat may exceed 90 °F.
  • Humidity may exceed 80 %.
  • Noise may exceed 85 dB.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required.
Physical Characteristics
  • Frequent standing, stooping, sitting.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs).
  • Occasional typing/keyboarding.
