Position Description
Design and administer personalized fitness training programs in accordance with member's needs and goals and program objectives of the Personal Training Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Physically and mentally fit to demonstrate correct form and lift excessive weight (minimum of 50 pounds) while remaining alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents and administer CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid effectively.
- Develop all program levels for participants and possess an understanding of muscles, basic nutrition, and overall fitness.
- Attend two mandatory association Health and Fitness meetings every year.
- Attend staff meetings as designated by your supervisor.
- Possess strong communication and listening skills to handle complaints or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing such comments.
- Maintain current certifications.
- Administer fitness programs in keeping with Y guidelines.
- Administer health risk appraisals.
- Administer individual/group fitness assessments when appropriate.
- Assist with the Y special events when needed.
- Maintain appropriate record keeping of trainees and training cards, Paycom hours reporting, and incident/accident reports.
- Assist in marketing the program.
- Enforce safety standards and procedures.
- Re‑rack dumbbells and plates prior to and after training.
- Keep fitness center and free‑weight areas clutter‑free by picking up towels, empty water bottles, trash, etc.
- Assist in cleaning all cardiovascular, weight machines, and free‑weight equipment.
- Communicate with coordinator/director when equipment malfunctions or free‑weight equipment is damaged.
- Notify member and supervisor if the session requires rescheduling (24 hours in advance unless it is an emergency situation).
- Maintain current knowledge of fitness trends, innovations, and programs and help educate participants of healthy lifestyle facts.
- Positively support the Y and its mission.
- Demonstrate and teach the attributes of personal character: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Respect client confidentiality.
- Develop positive relationships with members and provide motivational support and guidance.
- Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
Salary Description
Starting at $15.00 per hour.
Requirements
- Certified in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen (training provided by the Y if needed).
- At least 18 years of age.
- High School education or equivalent preferred.
- Approved national Personal Trainer Instructor certification.
- Required to lift excessive weight (minimum of 50 pounds).
