Personal Trainer
The Salvation Army Southern California invites applications for the Personal Trainer position. This role supports the mission of raising hope, promoting health and wellness, and strengthening individuals in body, mind, and spirit.
Basic Purpose
The Personal Trainer provides safe, effective, and engaging fitness programming to members and guests of the Kroc Center while supporting overall facility operations and fostering a mission‑driven environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop individualized fitness programs tailored to clients’ goals, abilities, and needs.
- Conduct fitness assessments and track client progress over time.
- Provide instruction on safe and effective exercise techniques, equipment usage, and injury prevention.
- Lead one‑on‑one or small group training sessions and provide motivation and accountability.
- Monitor the fitness floor to maintain safety, cleanliness and a welcoming environment.
- Assist with general Kroc Center operations, including equipment maintenance, daily cleaning and program set‑up/break‑down.
- Support community and wellness events, fitness challenges and health education workshops.
- Assist in youth and adult sports or recreation programs as needed.
- Collaborate with Kroc Center staff to deliver excellent customer service and connect members to other programs and resources.
- Stay current with fitness trends and maintain required certifications.
- Promote The Salvation Army’s mission by modeling integrity, inclusivity and service.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required; degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field preferred.
- Current nationally recognized Personal Training certification (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, ISSA or equivalent).
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Prior personal training or fitness instruction experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and flexible to assist in various facility areas.
- Commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
- Experience working in a fitness center with direct interaction with members of all ages and fitness levels.
- Evening, weekend and holiday availability may be required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid California Class C Driver License and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check, including DOJ clearance.
Physical Requirements
- Demonstrate proper exercise techniques.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, lift, pull, push and reach overhead.
- Capable of lifting, pulling and pushing up to 50–70 lbs.
- Ability to operate a computer.
