Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid Non-Provisional Driver’s License.
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
• Previous caregiving experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized, hands-on support with daily activities and routines.
• Encourage and assist with participation in preparing snacks and meals.
• Identify and utilize community resources, programs, and activities for enrichment, engagement, and social participation.
• Plan and support community outings based on the individual's interests and preferences.
• Engage the individual in preferred indoor leisure and recreational activities.
• Encourage healthy, active, and engaging activities when appropriate.
• Promote independence by enabling the individual to make choices and participate in activities.
• Provide patient, attentive, and consistent support during each shift.
• Maintain awareness of the individual's surroundings, needs, and safety.

WeAchieve is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and engaging Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide individualized, person-centered support to an adult receiving service in the community in Rockville, MD.

The individual enjoys actively participating in preparing snacks and meals, spending time in the community when activities are planned in advance and participating in indoor leisure activities. The DSP will play an important role in providing the support, encouragement, and engagement needed to help him have a fulfilling and enjoyable day.

The ideal candidate will focus not simply on completing tasks for the individual, but on empowering him to participate, make choices, engage with his community, and build greater independence.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized, hands-on support with daily activities and routines.
• Encourage and assist with participation in preparing snacks and meals.
• Identify and utilize community resources, programs, and activities that provide opportunities for enrichment, engagement, and social participation.
• Plan and support community outings based on the individual's interests and preferences.
• Engage the individual in preferred indoor leisure and recreational activities.
• Encourage healthy, active, and engaging activities when appropriate.
• Promote independence by providing opportunities for the individual to make choices and participate in activities rather than completing tasks for him.
• Provide patient, attentive, and consistent support throughout each scheduled shift.
• Maintain awareness of the individual's surroundings, needs, and safety while in the home and community.
• Follow the individual's person-centered plan, established routines, and WeAchieve policies and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with the individual, family/support team, and WeAchieve staff as appropriate.
• Complete required documentation accurately and timely.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Valid Non-Provisional Driver’s License.

• Previous experience in caregiving or a related field is a plus but not required.
• Strong communication skills, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Must pass background checks and any required training certifications.
• Willing and able to transport individuals with disabilities using a company vehicle and/or your personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement), within Montgomery County and the surrounding Washington, D.C. metro area
