Macon-Bibb County Government is seeking a Junior Personal Property Appraiser I to assist in valuing personal property, processing returns, and handling front desk duties. This entry-level role requires basic data entry skills, reliability, and the ability to travel within Macon-Bibb County.

Qualifications

  • Enter data into software systems.
  • Maintain folders for the Personal Property division.
  • Answer phones and operate front desk as needed.
  • Measure, list, and value pre-bill mobile homes.
  • Perform TAVT car appeal work.

Job description

The Personal Property Appraiser I is a junior position requiring first-level certification, responsible for appraising personal property.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Process business personal property returns and update mailing addresses
  • Work appeals of business personal property returns
  • Prepare valuations and work appeals of boats
  • Update new businesses and delete businesses that have closed
  • Enters data in software system
  • Maintain folders for the personal property division
  • Pull & file folders for the Personal Property staff
  • Process return mail and locate change of address and owners
  • Measures, lists, and value pre-bill mobile homes
  • Work TAVT car appeals
  • Answer incoming phone calls and work front desk as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

The Personal Property Appraiser I must be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED; and be in good physical and mental health; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have taken Courses I and IA and received a score of 70 or better on the Appraiser I exam or achieve within twenty-four (24) months.
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
TRAVEL

The Personal Property Appraiser I will be required to travel within Macon- Bibb County.

The Personal Property Appraiser I must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:

  • Have the aptitude to learn to perform assigned tasks, including reviewing maps and photography; locating property and gathering all information necessary to determine value; performing basic research on costs and sales data for cars and boats; computing appraisal values for personal property.
  • Knowledge of mass appraisal techniques.
  • Have the ability to deal effectively with the general public and with other governmental agencies.
  • Ability to interpret applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of local government organization and administration.
  • Ability to resolve problems in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with the use of computers, including software programs (Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report preparation.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and organize work; set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet necessary requirements of Appraiser I as mandated by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
