Job summary

Apply for the position of Personal Care Aide (PCA) in Newport, NC. Monday – Friday, 4 hours per day.

Description

Personal Care Aide (PCA) is a paraprofessional member of the client care team who works under the scheduling supervision of the Client Care Coordinator and clinical supervision of a registered nurse, Clinical Manager, providing selected personal care services and limited related household tasks as part of the client’s plan of care under a physician’s order.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Implement and provide day‑to‑day Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) support to clients within their homes as ordered by the physician’s plan of treatment and client’s plan of care.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living and personal care in accordance with the care plan, including baths, mouth care, denture care, skin care, foot care (no toenail cutting), grooming (shampooing, combing, shaving, filing nails), dressing and undressing, elimination (toilet, commode, urinal, bedpan), transfers, ambulation with or without mechanical aids, and therapy exercises under a registered therapist’s direction.
  • Assist with household tasks related to the client’s health, such as maintaining a clean, safe environment, planning and preparing meals per dietary requirements, light housekeeping, laundry of bedding and clothing, and assistance with errands and appointments outside the home.
  • Provide companionship and stimulation (reading, walks, etc.) and accompany the client to doctors or other appointments.
  • Utilize equipment safely and appropriately, remind the client to self‑administer medication (but do not administer medications such as eye drops, ear drops, ointments, pills, suppositories, injections, herbal remedies, or OTC medications), document shift details within established time parameters, and ensure client safety by following universal precautions.
  • Observe the client’s general physical, emotional, and mental status, reporting any changes or incidents immediately to agency coordinator, supervisor, and client’s designated representative.
  • Maintain and improve skills through staff development programs and in‑service education requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all professional areas and consider the needs of clients and their families, other employees, physicians, visitors, and all community members in an informative, courteous, and compassionate manner.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, all agency policies and procedures, and any other duties as assigned.
ADA Requirements
  • Routinely sit, stand, and walk on variable surfaces, including occasional climbing of ramps or stairs or use of foot controls.
  • Use hands for various tasks including hand controls, gripping, and handling objects.
  • Reach beyond mid‑line of body, reach overhead or at chest level at times.
  • Have vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Use universal safety precautions when performing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop and bend up to 2.5 hours per 8‑hour shift.
Qualifications
  • Current licensure/certification with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Current PCA certification.
  • Compliance with all existing regulations and company policies.
  • CPR preferred and may be required for some clients.
  • Met transportation, language, and cultural requirements specific to branch needs.
  • Sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick, ability to read, write, and carry out directions, maturity to meet job demands.
  • Other hours of work: varies on a case‑by‑case basis, variable hour employee.
Additional Requirements

Bi‑lingual – English/Spanish a plus.
