Role Description
The position of Personal Banker/Customer Service Representative is responsible for performing intermediate duties and support related to branch operational activities and financial services; processes new account transactions; assisting customers in their selection of various accounts and financial services; cross-selling the Bank’s products and services; opening, maintaining and closing of all account types; performing branch clerical duties; promoting business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new servicesThe position of Personal Banker also is required to be fully knowledgeable and skilled in the areas of teller, vault, safe deposit, processing and boarding DDA lines of credit, and is required to provide leadership, training and support to less experienced new account representatives and other branch staff members.This position also supports running a CSR window as a regular part of their job.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES, includes the following responsibilities, but not limited to
- Provides support to all assigned areas of branch operations where service or assistance is needed, including new accounts, teller transactions, safe deposit, vault teller
- Assists consumer and business customers in their selection of various accounts, products, and financial services available from the Bank; ensures cross-sell opportunities are presented by applying professional sales techniques. Focuses on and actively works to deepen relationships within the customer service experience.
- Interviews customers to obtain information; establishes proper identification of new customers; determines need and extent of reference investigation;
- Discusses, prepares, and processes documents related to the Bank’s electronic banking services.
- Discusses and refers merchant card applications for submission to the designated team members.
- Makes decisions regarding the opening of new accounts and safe deposit boxes; completes forms requiring customer signature(s); checks credit history as required; accepts initial deposits; prepares all documents and items pertaining to checking accounts, savings accounts and certificates of deposit for processing.
- May represent the Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business.
- Provides effective customer service by answering customer questions; investigates and corrects errors; and resolves problems or other issues.
- Processes wire transfer requests, address change, deposit and port maintenance, check and deposit slip orders, and endorsement stamp orders.
- Answers telephones and directs callers to proper Bank personnel.
- Processes DDA lines of credit/debit card applications, card ordering and file maintenance.
- May assist in opening and closing the vault daily; assists in balancing vault currency and coin.
- Cross-trains less experienced branch personnel.
- Type accurate routine letters, reports, and forms.
- Performs official notary service duties.

- Completes administrative tasks correctly and on time; supports the Bank’s goals and values; benefits the Bank through outside activities.

- Assures compliance with all Bank policies, procedures and processes, and all applicable state and federal banking laws, rules, and regulations; adheres to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) responsibilities that are specific to the position.
Qualifications
- Intermediate experience, knowledge and training in progressively responsible branch management and supervisory activities.
- Intermediate knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, Bank operational policies and procedures, and the Bank’s products and services.
- Intermediate experience, knowledge and training in all lending activities and terminology with advanced loan product knowledge.
- Intermediate sales and marketing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to cross-sell and explain all Bank products and services with confidence and authority.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to provide leadership, supervision, and training for oneor more team members using positive leadership techniques to ensure maximum productivity; demonstrated ability in organization and delegation skills.
- Basic knowledge of human resource labor laws and policies.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, spreadsheet software programs and host computer systems.
- Basic typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
- Advanced math skills; ability to calculate interest, proportions and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent.
- Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train team members, write reports, correspondence and procedures, and speak clearly to customers and team members.
- Thorough understanding of management procedures; ability to plan department or Bank activities (setting objectives, developing strategies, budgeting, and developing policies and procedures); initiative to organize various functions necessary to accomplish department or Bank activities; effectively staff (selecting, training and developing team members); directing team members towards the desired objectives (delegating, motivating, resolving problems); controlling the function (developing performance standards, measuring results, taking corrective action and rewarding team members as appropriate).
- Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
- Ability to work with no supervision while performing duties.
- Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
