Job description

Position Summary

The Personal Banker is responsible for providing support and coverage to branch banking team members and building and maintaining relationships with members to help them achieve their financial goals. The role identifies members’ financial needs and offers appropriate solutions, such as opening new accounts, providing loan options, and assisting with investments. The primary goal is to deliver excellent member service while achieving sales targets and promoting the credit union’s products and services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate Wellby Core Values daily and work purposefully to provide the best member experience.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships by welcoming members, managing lobby traffic, and scheduling or canceling appointments.
  • Engage with branch partners and other lines of business to offer the most appropriate products.
  • Identify changes in members’ financial situations and recommend relevant solutions to support their goals.
  • Recommend and assist members with technology solutions such as Online Banking and mobile applications.
  • Achieve sales targets as required.
  • Perform member service functions: open new accounts (checking, certificates, money markets, IRA, CD), maintain accounts, and handle outbound new deposits.
  • Verify eligibility for new accounts and process documentation through the system.
  • Handle specialized account functions such as separations/divorce account changes and estate expertise.
  • Drive proactive sales conversations via outbound calling, teller interactions, appointment setting, and effective lobby engagement.
  • Process loan applications: gather borrower information, assess creditworthiness, and determine terms and conditions.
  • Respond promptly to member and team member requests.
  • Maintain vault, dual‑control access, and approval authority limits in coordination with branch leaders.
  • Order a cash supply to meet daily needs and maintain safety of negotiables and confidential records.
  • Adhere to security policies, opening/closing procedures, and the Bank Secrecy Act (Currency Transaction Reports, Suspicious Activity Reports).
  • Complete mandatory compliance testing by deadlines.
  • Perform teller transaction functions as needed (deposits, withdrawals, transfers, payments).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions, operating policies, and procedures.
  • Basic math skills and understanding of bank security measures.
  • Ability to detect, address, and prevent fraud.
  • Proficiency in business English, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Understanding of retail product philosophy, banking best practices, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general PC operation.
  • Skilled in high‑level member service practices.
  • Ability to recognize questionable and fraudulent transactions.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Trustworthiness and integrity.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced team environment and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Team members have no supervisory responsibilities.

Complexity & Scope of Work

The role performs a variety of related tasks that are mostly routine; non‑routine situations are referred to the supervisor. Instructions are generally procedural and may be specific or general, determined by established procedures or the Branch Manager.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Requires remaining stationary 50% of the time and standing for long periods. Daily movements include sitting, standing, reaching, grasping, operating computers, and moving around the branch. Work may involve lifting up to 25 pounds. The environment is generally moderate in noise and typical of an office.

Work Hours

Full‑time, hourly (non‑exempt) with occasional overtime. Shifts may be staggered between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. CST and include Saturdays.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of member service, financial services, or similar retail experience and/or bank teller experience.
  • IRA and MOD experience preferred.
  • Experience working with the public and handling cash.
  • Bondable for all candidates.
Compensation and Classification

Full‑time, hourly (non‑exempt) with emergency classification designated as Non‑essential.
