Job summary

NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Assistant Environmental Engineer to serve as a Permit Coordinator for BEDC in Queens. The role includes permitting support, regulatory guidance, and review of EAS/CEQR documentation for DEP's capital projects.

The candidate will conduct regulatory research, prepare permit applications, and interact with agencies while maintaining the permit tracking database. Permanent civil service status is required for eligibility.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental or fire protection engineering work.
Bachelor's degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental or fire protection engineering work.
Bachelor's degree and a master's degree in environmental or fire protection engineering from an accredited college.

Responsibilities

Provide permitting support and coordination of regulatory and environmental review compliance programs for BEDC’s portfolio of capital projects.
Perform permit identification, acquisition, and compliance throughout project life cycle; develop and review permit applications.
Prepare environmental review documentation and interact with regulatory agencies; provide regulatory guidance to project teams.
Maintain permit tracking database and assist in EAS and CEQR document review and development.
Conduct regulatory research, data analysis, and evaluations to support environmental permit documentation.
