Job summary

Peabody Energy is seeking an Engineer – Permitting to support the Midwest environmental services team. The role covers Indiana, Illinois, and Alabama, developing surface and underground permit applications, with expertise in soils, hydrology, vegetation, and wildlife.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, or Mining Engineering with 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience, or Master’s degree with 1–2 years of experience.
• Preferred minimum of three years of experience in mining.
• Knowledge of Indiana, Illinois, and Alabama mining environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare data for permit applications to meet regulatory performance standards and minimize mine costs.
• Prepare and review maps of soils, land use, geology, and wildlife for permit applications.
• Prepare and/or review hydrologic designs for inclusion in permit applications; maps, text, and tables.
• Coordinate and prepare permit applications, revisions, and amendments with mine staff and agencies.
• Manage environmental project contracts and provide staff support.
• Ensure safety competencies and risk management practices.
