Position: Permanent Substitute Teacher - SPED

Term: 9 Months

In order to create an encouraging learning environment for students in the absence of a teacher. A Permanent Substitute works for the duration of a school year and is available to substitute teach in classrooms where a staff member is absent. Permanent Substitutes can expect to cover a variety of short-term and long-term assignments based on the District’s needs. The Permanent Substitute may also be required to perform other duties as assigned when no substitute teacher assignments are available.

  • Conduct all official business in a professional and timely manner, utilizing district technology resources.
  • Arrive to work and leave work at the time specified by supervisors and attend all required meetings pertinent to the position.
  • Maintains accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy.
  • Solve practical problems utilizing math functions as needed to complete job duties.
  • Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties.
Essential Functions
  • Supervise students at all times.
  • Assumes the responsibility for instructing classes
  • Develop lesson plans and assignments as needed
  • Maintains appropriate records including grading test papers, recording grades, student assignments for homework, projects and the necessary clerical work.
  • Provides for individualized and small group instruction for students.
  • Organizes classroom to promote learning.
  • Gain familiarity with district curriculum and resources
  • Maintain classroom safety
  • Manages student behavior constructively.
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments as needed.
  • Attend and contribute in staff meetings, professional development activities and teacher institutes
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  • Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
  • Move around the classroom
  • Read handwritten or printed material
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Attendance

Regular availability and commitment to accepted/assigned absences are an essential function of this position.

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
