Job summary

ESS in Mahanoy City, PA is seeking a permanent substitute aide to support classroom teachers and students with special needs in the Mahanoy Area School District. The position involves reinforcing instruction, supervising students, and assisting with materials in a busy elementary or middle school setting.

Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED and clearances (Act 24, Act 34, Act 114, Act 151, Act 168) plus a TB test/physical. Prior paraprofessional experience is helpful.

Qualifications

• PA Act 24 Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification is required.
• State and Federal Criminal History Clearances are required.
• Child Abuse Clearance and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of students.
• Assist teacher with classroom management and general supervision of the class.
• Assist with administrative duties such as setting up equipment and preparing materials.
• Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs.
• Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs.
• Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans.
• Perform other duties as directed by the classroom teacher and school administration.

Substitute Aide

An ESS substitute aide assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. The substitute paraprofessional job responsibilities range from supplementing regular classroom curriculum to helping individual students.

Substitute aides are also known as school paraprofessionals, teacher assistants, instructional aides, one-to-one aides, and personal care assistants.
