Job summary

Food City in Tennessee is seeking a proactive intern to support the perishable department operations. You will coordinate daily tasks, assist with stocking, rotate stock, and ensure product quality while delivering courteous customer service.

You will help train associates, schedule shifts, track inventory, and uphold HACCP standards. This internship offers hands-on experience in department leadership, policy implementation, and cross-functional teamwork in a retail environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Grocery stocking experience a plus, but not required.
• Ability to meet standard Physical, Mental, and Visual demands.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals on a daily basis.
• Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operations of the perishable department.
• Provide training and development for perishable department associates.
• Create work schedules for all perishable department associates.
• Conduct performance reviews for department staff.
• Follow and implement all policies and procedures.
• Control labor costs.
• Attend department head meetings as needed.
• Inspect and rotate stock daily to ensure quality.
• Provide efficient and courteous customer service.
• Ensure proper shelf tags are in place.
• Delegate workload fairly among staff.
• Complete departmental paperwork and keep records.
• Order and maintain inventory according to daily needs.
• Check refrigeration cases hourly for problems.
• Ensure merchandise locations match shelf allocations.
• Follow the HACCP program.
• Handle ice cream per company policies.
