Job summary

Emory Healthcare in Decatur, GA is seeking a Perioperative Services Tech to support the surgical team in the operating room and perioperative areas. You will assist with patient care, prepare the environment, and ensure safe, efficient procedures.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist, you will stock supplies, maintain aseptic technique, and help with room setup and cleaning while following infection control guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Healthcare setting experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient care and observation duties under supervision of a RN, LPN, or Surgical Technologist.
• May assist with setup of operating rooms for surgical procedures.
• Opens sterile supplies and instruments under supervision, ensuring proper aseptic technique.
• Stocks, sets up, and maintains specialty carts and equipment for procedures.
• Maintains supplies, equipment, and instruments in a clean, aseptic condition.
• Performs routine cleaning, disinfection, and trash removal in perioperative areas.
• Transports patients safely to/from the operating area.
• Replenishes supplies, medications (as permitted), and linens.
• Greet and assist patients, family members, and healthcare team members.
• Adheres to infection control and PPE guidelines.
• Performs other duties to support perioperative services.

Job Summary: The Perioperative Services Tech supports the surgical team by performing a variety of duties related to patient care, environmental maintenance, and supply handling in the operating room and perioperative areas. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist, this position plays a key role in preparing the surgical environment and ensuring safe, efficient care for patients undergoing procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists with patient care and observation duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, LPN, or Surgical Technologist
• May assist with set up of operating rooms for surgical procedures
• Opens sterile supplies and instruments under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist, ensuring proper aseptic technique is followed
• Stocks, sets up, and maintains specialty carts and equipment needed for surgical procedures
• Maintains supplies, equipment, and instruments in a clean and aseptic condition
• Performs routine cleaning, disinfection, and trash removal in the perioperative environment
• May assist with transporting patients safely to and from the operating area
• Replenishes stock of supplies, medications (as permitted), and linens before, during, and after procedures
• Provides excellent customer service by greeting and assisting patients, family members, and healthcare team members
• Complies with hospital policies and safety standards, including infection control and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned to support perioperative services

Minimum Qualifications: Education - High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience - Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs., 0-33% of the work day (occasionally) Lifting 25 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
