Job summary

HealthyU Clinics in Arizona seeks a qualified Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) to provide safe, patient-centered care across Pre-Operative, Operating Room and PACU settings. Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with ADN/ASN or equivalent required.
  • Current, unrestricted Arizona RN license.
  • BLS/CPR certification required; ACLS within 90 days of hire.
  • 1–2 years perioperative/OR/PACU/ASC nursing experience preferred.
  • Strong assessment, medication administration, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor patients throughout perioperative process and discharge readiness.

  • Establish IV access; reconcile medications and administer as ordered.

The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care throughout the perioperative continuum, including Pre-Operative, Operating Room (OR), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) settings. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and accurately documenting patient care in accordance with established nursing standards, provider orders, facility policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The RN collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams across various surgical and procedural specialties. This position requires flexibility and a commitment to cross-training, maintaining competency, and supporting patient care across Pre-Op, OR, and PACU functions as assigned. The RN promotes patient safety, effective communication, and continuity of care throughout the surgical experience. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assess and monitor patients throughout the perioperative process, including medical history, medications, allergies, vital signs, clinical condition, and readiness for procedures and discharge.
  • Verify patient identity, procedure, surgical site, consent, testing, orders, and required clinical documentation.
  • Establish IV access; perform required medication reconciliation and verification; and safely administer medications, fluids, and treatments according to provider orders and RN scope of practice.
  • Prepare patients and procedural areas, ensure necessary equipment, supplies, medications, and emergency resources are available, participate in required time-outs, and assist physicians, anesthesia providers, and the surgical team during procedures.
  • Provide appropriate nursing care for patients receiving MAC, moderate/deep sedation, and general anesthesia within demonstrated competency.
  • Monitor airway, respiratory and cardiovascular status, consciousness, pain, nausea, and other clinical indicators; recognize deterioration or complications and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain patient safety, sterile technique, infection prevention, proper positioning and transfers, and appropriate specimen identification, labeling, handling, and documentation.
  • Respond appropriately to medical and surgical emergencies and maintain competency in CPR, ACLS, and required emergency and clinical equipment.
  • Educate and support patients and caregivers throughout the perioperative experience, including procedures, medications, recovery, discharge, wound care, activity, follow-up, and when to seek medical attention.
  • Maintain complete and timely clinical documentation and provide effective handoffs during transitions of care.
  • Promptly report patient safety events, medication errors, equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, and other clinical incidents in accordance with facility requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, ASC policies, professional nursing standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and patient safety and infection prevention protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team, including appropriate delegation to qualified assistive personnel within applicable scope-of-practice requirements and facility policy.
  • Participate in required meetings, continuing education, quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, emergency preparedness, and competency activities.
  • Maintain required licenses, certifications, and competency across Pre-Op, OR, and PACU functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) or equivalent required.
  • Current, unrestricted Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required upon hire or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of perioperative, Pre-Operative, Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) nursing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with IV placement and IV therapy.
  • Experience caring for and recovering patients following monitored anesthesia care (MAC), deep sedation, and general anesthesia.
  • Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, emergency response, communication, and patient documentation skills.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with physicians, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other clinical staff.
  • Ability and willingness to cross-train and maintain competency in Pre-Op, OR, and PACU functions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
