Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital seeks a Perioperative Clinical Equipment Technician to join the Main Operating Room team in Boston. You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve a range of clinical equipment issues, ensuring availability for surgical cases and compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve clinical equipment issues following procedures.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on equipment needs and repairs.
• Maintain safety by following safety standards in the operating room.
• Provide, coordinate, and maintain OR equipment for routine service and maintenance.

Position Summary / Department Summary:

We are seeking a Perioperative Clinical Equipment Technician to join the team on our Main Operating Room in Boston.

Key Responsibilities:

• Following established procedures, identifies, diagnoses, and resolves various basic to complex clinical equipment issues.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including members of Clinical Leadership, attending physicians, staff RNs, Surgical Scrub Technologists, Clinical Assistants, HTM, Sterile Processing Department, Minimally Invasive Surgical Equipment Specialist, and associated vendors regarding equipment needs and repairs.
• Maintaining safety of work area by following safety standards and awareness of hazards in the operating room.
• Providing, coordinating, and maintaining Operating Room equipment for routine service, preventative maintenance, inspections, and required records and documents.
• Making recommendations on equipment replacements and advises leadership on current needs and assists in forecasting future equipment needs. Participating in related committees/project teams as assigned.
• Participating in inspection tours of clinical areas.
• Notifying clinical leadership of equipment issues that might affect patient safety case delays or cancellations.
• Identifying the need and coordinates the acquisition of loaner equipment when necessary.
• Conducting in-service training and provides instruction to clinical staff on care and operation of current and new clinical equipment, which includes providing written or visual documentation.
• Fields ad hoc requests from staff and priorities in collaboration with clinical leadership. Contributing to the departmental training program of new employees.
• Monitoring equipment availability and provides substitutions as for needed for surgical cases.
• Providing daily communication of pertinent equipment issues to clinical leadership and staff as needed.
• Working 5 – 8 hour days shifts per week Monday – Friday.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

• 5 years of previous clinical experience in a surgical/perioperative setting.
• Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
• Must possess advanced knowledge of clinical/medical terminology.
• Must possess working knowledge of surgical/medical equipment

License/Certifications

• High School Diploma / GED Required
