Job summary

Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis seeks a Dental Assistant to provide chair-side support, pass instruments, and help with suction during dental procedures. The role includes assisting with local anesthesia, taking vital signs, and pre/post-operative patient care.

You will guide graduate and pre-doctoral students in taking digital radiographs and cone-beam scans, ensure instrument sterilization, and help prepare the surgical area for procedures and upcoming patients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a dental assisting training program; OR 6 months of dental assisting experience.
• Indiana X-Ray license required by date of hire.
• Dental Assistant certification preferred by date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide chair-side assistance to dentists by passing instruments and managing suction.
• Assist in administration of local anesthetic.
• Take patients' blood pressure and monitor vitals.
• Prepare patients for surgery and provide postoperative care and instructions.
• Instruct students on taking digital and cone-beam radiographs.
• Ensure sterilization and proper organization of instruments and equipment.
• Support front desk with scheduling follow-ups.
