Job summary

USA Health in Mobile, AL seeks a Clinical Perfusionist to participate in cardiac surgery and manage heart-lung bypass operations. The role includes assembling and testing CPB circuits, monitoring physiologic parameters, and ensuring proper sterilization and equipment maintenance.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in circulation technology, current CLPRF certification or progress toward it within two years, and strong teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in circulation technology from an accredited institution.
  • CLPRF - Clinical Perfusionists - Current certification as a Circulation Technologist with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusionists or the International Board of Circulation Technologists or attainment within two years of employment. Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in cardiac surgery as a clinical perfusionist.
  • Assembles, primes, recirculates and tests the ECT circuit prior to initiation of CPB; consults with surgeon regarding modification of the circuit.
  • Monitors and observes the operation of the heart-lung bypass machine and the patient’s physiologic parameters; makes adjustments to maintain adequate perfusion.
  • Obtains blood specimens as required.
  • Disassembles and cleans the perfusion equipment.
  • Directs/assists in setup, cleaning, sterilization, testing and operation of monitoring instrumentation and related equipment used in cardiac surgery.
  • Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains department records, reports and files; participates in education and training activities.
  • Attends meetings and completes required department/hospital responsibilities.
  • Maintains and operates laser equipment in the Operating Room.
  • Analyses permanent pacemaker leads and generators during implantation.
  • Acts as instructor for departmental and extra-departmental personnel; orients new staff.
  • Completes mandatory requirements and adheres to infection control standards.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in cardiac surgery as a clinical perfusionist.

  • Assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains department records, reports and files as required.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • All administrative duties and others as assigned by the Director of Circulation Technology.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Circulation Technology.
  • Maintains and operates laser equipment in the Operating Room.
  • Analyzes permanent pacemaker leads and generators during implantation.
  • Acts as instructor for departmental and extra-departmental personnel. Clinical instructor for all scheduled clinical rotations of students enrolled at the
  • University of South Alabama.
  • Orients new personnel as assigned.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards

  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
