Qualifications

  • Certified Clinical Perfusionist (ABCP) is required.
  • Bachelor’s in Cardiovascular Perfusion Science is preferred.
  • Master’s in Cardiovascular Perfusion Science is preferred.
  • 1 year CCP experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating room and cardiopulmonary bypass machine for the surgical procedure.
  • Practice evidence-based perfusion.
  • Evaluate cardiopulmonary status and other factors to determine the plan.
  • Formulate a case plan by identifying pathophysiological problems.
  • Develop short- and long-term goals to provide continuity of care.
  • Adapt to changes in patient status and adjust plans.
  • Document assessments on operative records.
  • Communicate assessment with the care team.

The Perfusionist is a uniquely and formally trained allied health professional in Franciscan, educated in the field of extracorporeal science, whose scope of practice expressly includes the utilization of extracorporeal devices. The Perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace a person’s cardiopulmonary, circulatory, or respiratory function. The Perfusionist reports to the Director of CV Perfusion, and is responsible for the selection of appropriate equipment and techniques necessary for cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory systems. This position operates under very stressful situations, and is chartered with maintaining acute observational skills, persistent attention to detail, and exercising excellent clinical judgment.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Document assessments on operative record.
  • Communicate assessment with all persons involved in patient’s care.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree Cardiovascular Perfusion Science - Preferred
  • Master’s Degree Cardiovascular Perfusion Science - Preferred
  • 1 year CCP - Preferred
  • Certified Clinical Perfusionist - American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) - Required
