Position Summary
This position operates the Heart/Lung Bypass machine and other ancillary technologies during surgical procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) to support the cardiorespiratory function of patients during cardiothoracic surgery.

Position Duties
- Operates the Heart/Lung Bypass machine during surgical procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass to support the cardiorespiratory function of patients during cardiothoracic surgery. Selects appropriate equipment and techniques in accordance with policy. Provides optimal physiologic management including blood gas analysis, venous saturation, cerebral/splanchnic oximetry, cardiac index, anticoagulation, and vital organ monitoring.
- Uses clinical and technical expertise to select and manage MCAD devices. Supports implantation and prolonged management of VADs including Berlin Heart Excor, Total Artificial Heart, paracorporeal VADs, and ECLS.
- Works with cardiothoracic surgery to monitor patient outcomes and collect clinical data; participates in cardiothoracic and anesthesia research.
- Assists cardiothoracic surgeons with surgical procedures and prepares extracorporeal devices for implantation.
- Accompany the Heart Procurement Team during select transplant cases, which may include traveling or flying to external hospitals and procurement facilities.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Education
- Completion of Perfusion Technology Program accredited by the ABCP.

Additional Requirements
- Current Clinical Perfusion – ABCP – CCP-A or eligibility; 3 attempts allowed to obtain certification.
