Job summary

Phoenix Children's is seeking a Perfusionist for its Cardio Surgery team in Phoenix. The role operates the Heart/Lung Bypass machine and ancillary technologies during CPB procedures to support pediatric patients’ cardiorespiratory function.

You will work Mon-Fri, days, in a full-time capacity, collaborating with cardiothoracic surgeons and anesthesia, monitoring physiologic parameters and participating in research initiatives within the department.

Qualifications

• Completion of Perfusion Technology Program accredited by the ABCP.
• Current Clinical Perfusion – ABCP – CCP-A or eligibility; 3 attempts to obtain certification.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Operates the Heart/Lung Bypass machine during CPB to support cardiorespiratory function.
• Selects equipment and techniques per policy; monitors blood gas, oxygenation, cardiac index, anticoagulation, and vital organ function.
• Supports implantation and management of VADs and ECLS including Berlin Heart Excor, Total Artificial Heart, paracorporeal VADs, and ECLS.
• Collaborates with cardiothoracic surgeons to monitor outcomes and contribute to research.
• Assists cardiothoracic surgeons with procedures and prepares extracorporeal devices for implantation.
• Accompanies the Heart Procurement Team during select transplant cases, including travel to external hospitals.
• Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Duties

• Operates the Heart/Lung Bypass machine during surgical procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass to support the cardiorespiratory function of patients during cardiothoracic surgery. Selects appropriate equipment and techniques in accordance with policy. Provides optimal physiologic management including blood gas analysis, venous saturation, cerebral/splanchnic oximetry, cardiac index, anticoagulation, and vital organ monitoring.
• Uses clinical and technical expertise to select and manage MCAD devices. Supports implantation and prolonged management of VADs including Berlin Heart Excor, Total Artificial Heart, paracorporeal VADs, and ECLS.
• Works with cardiothoracic surgery to monitor patient outcomes and collect clinical data; participates in cardiothoracic and anesthesia research.
• Assists cardiothoracic surgeons with surgical procedures and prepares extracorporeal devices for implantation.
• Accompany the Heart Procurement Team during select transplant cases, which may include traveling or flying to external hospitals and procurement facilities.
• Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
