Detroit Tigers seek an Applied Performance Scientist to manage scalable workload monitoring frameworks and integrate data into decision-making across performance, medical, and coaching teams.

You will drive research linking physical preparation to on-field performance, collaborating with staff to ensure data-informed processes in all environments. Office-based with occasional travel required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field is required.
• 3+ years of applied Performance Science experience with elite athletes and NSCA CPSS or CSCS.
• Experience with workload monitoring, performance testing, and strength & conditioning is preferred; math/data science background is a plus.
• Excellent knowledge of baseball concepts, with experience working with players and coaches.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to align stakeholders across departments.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with data analysis tools (SQL, R, Python).

Responsabilités

• Lead the development and implementation of a standardized workload monitoring framework for athlete readiness and decisions.
• Collaborate across Health and Performance to align physical, mechanical, workload, and performance information.
• Monitor workload trends, flag injury risk or underperformance, and support playing-time projections.
• Support in-season physical testing and profiling, integrating results with workload and game-demand data.
• Assist in player evaluation through physical profiling and benchmarking against norms.
• Support injury risk modeling and broader research to mitigate risk.
• Complete ad-hoc analyses and generate reports to support development and performance goals.
• Drive research on player availability and on-field performance outcomes.
• Monitor emerging best practices and integrate advancements to maintain competitive edge.
• Continuously evaluate and improve internal systems, workflows, and communication.
