Job summary

Apple seeks a Performance Control Software Engineer to measure, analyze and control the relationship between power and performance in Apple silicon across platforms. You will design experiments and prototype in‑kernel performance control algorithms, collaborating with OS, silicon and application teams.

Required: BS in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering, OS design experience and kernel development in C/C++.

• Find opportunities to improve the measurement and control capabilities of Apple silicon.

Platform Architecture is looking for a Performance Control Software Engineer to measure, analyze and control the relationship between power and performance in Apple’s most advanced systems. In this position, you will study the execution of workloads on Apple silicon across all Apple platforms and leverage that understanding to invent new operating system performance control features. You will design and conduct performance experiments, create instrumentation and data visualizations, prototype innovative in-kernel performance control algorithms, collaborate with teams ranging from the core operating system through user-facing applications, and productize the software that controls the performance of every workload executed on hundreds of millions of Apple products around the world.

Minimum Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar engineering degree.
• Experience with operating system design and implementation.
• Kernel software development experience in C or C++.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
• MS in Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar engineering degree.
• Knowledge of computer architecture and hardware performance monitoring instrumentation.
• Userland software development experience in environments such as C, C++, Swift or Python.
• Experience with system-level performance profiling, debugging tools, and tracing frameworks (e.g., DTrace, Instruments, perf).
• Familiarity with data analysis, statistical modeling, or visualization techniques to interpret complex power and performance metrics.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,000 and $263,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
