Job summary

The Division of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Scientist to coordinate and conduct research on autism, communication, and consciousness. You will work with an interdisciplinary team using behavioral, phenomenological, and eye-tracking methods to explore extraordinary communication in nonspeaking autistic individuals.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree or Master’s with substantial research experience required.
  • Experience with human subjects research, study design, data management, and statistics preferred.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate data collection and ensure IRB compliance.
  • Oversee data management for behavioral, qualitative, and eye-tracking data.
  • Perform data cleaning, coding, statistical analyses, and interpretation of findings.
  • Prepare manuscripts, conference talks, and grant progress reports.
  • Assist with grant proposals and collaboration with investigators and external partners.
  • Participate in weekly meetings and contribute to the research mission.
