Job summary

HARMAN is seeking a Perceptual Audio Engineer (Research) to develop metrics, methods, and evaluation frameworks that connect algorithms to how users actually perceive. You will design listening tests, build perceptual datasets, and establish ML-based quality metrics to prevent perceptual regressions.

Collaborate with DSP, acoustics, ML and system testing teams to ensure metrics reflect real user value. This hybrid role is based in Northridge, CA; MS/PhD in EE/CS/Acoustics or equivalent, and 5+

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in EE/CS/Acoustics/Psychoacoustics/Statistics or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in perceptual audio or related applied research/engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop perceptual metrics and evaluation methodologies.
• Design listening studies and subjective evaluations.
• Develop ML-based quality prediction or artifact detection.
• Define acceptance criteria for CI-style perceptual gates.
• Build and maintain clean datasets and metadata.
• Collaborate with DSP, acoustics, ML, and testing teams.
• Use AI tools to accelerate analysis with traceability.
