Job summary

Banyan Treatment Centers in Milford, DE is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) to deliver direct patient care under medical supervision in an inpatient/substance use disorder setting. You’ll perform nursing assessments, administer medications, and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted RN license in Delaware.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience preferred, with substance use disorder treatment and co-occurring mental health experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nursing standards of care for mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, objectivity, and composure in high-stress situations.
  • Experience with EMR systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care under supervision of the medical provider per protocols and standards of practice.
  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments and admission documentation within established timeframes.
  • Administer medications and treatments, providing education as indicated.
  • Assess patient medical needs, determine urgency, and initiate appropriate interventions or referrals.
  • Monitor psychiatric symptoms, medication effectiveness, and safety; report changes to leadership and treatment team.
  • Apply clinical judgment in crisis situations, including suicide risk assessment and safety interventions.
  • Transcribe, document, and implement provider orders accurately.
  • Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain timely, accurate EMR documentation per licensure and standards.
  • Support medication management and controlled substances processes with Compliance and nursing leadership.
  • Maintain certifications, participate in training and meetings, and demonstrate professionalism.

Position Details


  • Reporting To: Director of Nursing

  • Schedule: Per-diem, As needed schedule

  • Location: Milford, DE (On-site)


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Support


  • Provide direct nursing care under the supervision of the medical provider in accordance with medical protocols and standards of practice.

  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments and required admission documentation within established timeframes.

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and provide medication education as indicated.

  • Assess patient medical needs, determine urgency, and initiate appropriate interventions, referrals, or emergency response as required.

  • Monitor patients for psychiatric symptoms, medication effectiveness, and safety concerns, and report changes to the nursing leadership, provider, or treatment team as appropriate.

  • Apply sound clinical judgment in crisis situations, including suicide risk assessment, de-escalation, and patient safety interventions.


Medical & Interdisciplinary Collaboration


  • Accurately transcribe, document, and implement provider orders, including verbal orders when permitted.

  • Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary team members to support integrated patient care.

  • Communicate patient health concerns to nursing and clinical leadership and participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning.


Documentation, Compliance & Accreditation


  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with licensure, accreditation, and organizational standards.

  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information and compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Support medication management and controlled substance processes in collaboration with Compliance and nursing leadership, as applicable.


Professional Practice & Operational Responsibilities


  • Maintain required certifications, training, and continuing education in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in in-service education, department meetings, and staff meetings as required.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and effective teamwork in a regulated healthcare environment.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned within scope of practice.


Qualifications


  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Delaware.

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience preferred, with experience in substance use disorder treatment and co-occurring mental health disorders in an inpatient setting strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of nursing standards of care for patients with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring diagnoses.

  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism, objectivity, and composure in high-stress or emergency situations.

  • Demonstrated understanding of patient confidentiality, ethical practice, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.

  • Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred.
